If fitness is music, Sachin is Mozart & MSD Tchaikovsky!

MUMBAI: MS Dhoni is Tchaikovsky, Sachin Tendulkar is Mozart, Virender Sehwag Beethoven, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina rock stars. No, this isn't a Grammy special in honour of Indian cricket team. This is the team's fitness trainer Ramji Srinivasan talking about the Men in Blue who sustained the right kind of fitness in the run-up to the World Cup and maintained it through the 45-day tournament. For Ramji, Dhoni is Tchaikovsky because like the Russian composer, the Indian skipper has an explosive style. Tendulkar is Mozart because he's simply a born genius. When Sehwag is batting in full flow, it's like the Beethoven symphony. Kohli and Raina rock stars because they are icons for the coming generation. Ramji loves his music and so he cannot help comparing the team to these music greats. But he loves his fitness too and can't help but go on talking when asked to assess the Indian team and how they went about preparing for the World Cup. "Lot of people talk about Indian team not being fit, there being continuous fitness problems. These are myths. You look at the teams that participated in the World Cup and check how many of them were bogged down by injuries. Look at the way most teams suffered as they lost their crucial players right in the middle of the tournament. The Indian team survived the whole duration and mind you, a World Cup is as challenging as it can get," says Ramji. Particularly in case of Yuvraj and Zaheer, he says it was mostly public perception that added to the rumours doing the rounds. "You don't need to have a six or eight pack to have the right kind of fitness. Firstly, you can't compare a cricketer to a tennis or a rugby player. It is about maintaining fitness as much as it is about prevention of injuries," he says. Examples, he can cite many. About boys who can lift 100 kgs on bench press but can't stand a full day under the sun; boys who can run really fast and are very quick but ask them to bowl 10 overs at a stretch and they'll back off. "Cricketers are a different breed. Hand-eye coordination, mental agility... there are several components," he says. Ramji is in awe of Dhoni and Tendulkar in particular. Dhoni, because of his surfboard like body and Tendulkar because he knows his mind, and body so well. "Both are gym guys but Dhoni is like something explosive who loves boxing. He's taken my hand off a couple of times. He's got a well toned body. Tendulkar on the other hand is like the Jedai in Star Wars, your ultimate warrior. He is as aggressive as Dhoni or anyone else but he is always under tremendous control. I'm yet to see someone like Sachin in this life," he says.

no ...please . those people (musicians ) are Maha Legends in their own field .I will rather not compare them or cricketers with them. Infact in some way, I feel those musicians are just too great to be compared.

Unbelievable how Sachin has maintained his fitness despite playing cricket for over 20 years and playing under so much pressure and expectations. He is still one of the most energetic fielders on the ground. Dhoni seldom misses a match despite handling wicket keeping, batting and being the captain all by himself. Kudos to both these guys. :hail:

I on the other hand' date=' feel that Goddy is just too great to be compared :winky:[/quote'] If you leave the off-field conduct aside for a while. Then there is a long list and there are people who would give him tough competition, in fact some might leave goddy behind by some margin. e.g. Lance Armstrong, Walter Lindrum, Pele, Michael Jordan, Ali.

That is the thing - off field conduct is also part and parcel of a person's greatness. To live upto the expectations of a billion people for 21 years and that also while exhibiting exemplary behavior off the field is no mean feat. Along with that there's his impact on the game of cricket in India - the rise of this game can be attributed to some extent to this man.

Yes - but musician article guy is talking about is fitness and stuff. Its a bit dumb to say - when it comes to fitness - Sachin is mozart or something. Within cricket itself you can find better example, and beyond cricket there will be countless examples.
