It should say a lot about what Americans think of Indians when there are 2 Indian origin governers in 2 shouthern states and they both are Republicans. Indians normall vote Dems, but all the Bubbas in Pickups were campaigning for Bobby in Louisiana. "Bubbas for Bobby" was their slogan. Can a paki become a state senator in Michigan? Hell No!

Indians going gaga over having Governor elects in United States is akin to Pakistanis having orgasms over Amir Khan winning his boxing games. Never understood this propensity to celebrate success of a non fellow countrymen based on common "descent".

Its not going gaga over anything. If thats that case why do we go gaga over the Indian team winning the WC. None of us played in it and no one is related to any of the players. It is just sharing the happiness of someone like you. Its the same way we are ashamed when an Indian origin person does something stupid. When that happens lot of people will try to generalise the Indians so its also ok to generalise Indians when they do good and achieve somethig. I should be thankful to all the Indians here in US who had earned people like me good name thru their action. People's perception here in the US about Indians is, we are hardworking and smart and educated.

Indian-Americans in USA are perfectly entitled to feel happy that people of Indian origin are breaking new ground there. I agree that the media in India does hype up some of these stories unnecessarily. On the other hand you will find PIOs wildly celebrate successes of India as well. For example in cricket. So the "propensity" is not one-sided.

Dude thats great that life is charming - doesnt change the result of this post and the fact you cant provide an adequate response to a simple question posed above. "What do normal Americans think of Bin Laden being Killed in Pakistan"? Answer they are not suprised Pakistan is the mothership of terrorism and most Pakistanis cant be trusted. Thats why they hold no positions of power like Indian Americans do. Word association for the typical American: India: call centers, funny accents (like appu from simpsons and russel peters), short people, Gandhi :giggle:
There Fixed it for you

Dude, no one is celebrating nothing. Topic is how Pakistan and Pakistanis are perceived by Americans. This just goes to show that although culturally there are so many similarities espeically by Punjabi and other northies from India with Pakistan the west perceives them to be hugely different. This is only underlies by the fact there are so many Indians of prominent position in the US and near no Pakistanis. THis is only underscored by the fact that white americans voted in droves for Indian Americans. Would they ever do such a thing for a Pakistani origin potential governor? Why is that exactly? Because the terrorist/jihadi/begger country perception is that of Pakistan in the west Call centre/yoga/taj mahals for India.
