As many as 12 Indian cricketers, including the likes of Munaf Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin, are expected to feature in the first edition of the Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL) scheduled to commence from July 19.
The likes? These guys make Munaf Patel & Ravi Ashwin seem like Glenn McGrath & Shane Warne

international matches doesn't attract huge crowds in sl. not sure abt slpl. it will be a fail.
Its not about the crowds. It is about the number of eyes on TV esp. Indian eyes. Money from Sri lankan market is really low and cannot sustain even this small tournament for a few years if it is just dependent on SL eyes. What the company in charge of this has done is pretty good. They have enticed lesser know international players and made it reasonably attractive to them at a low cost. This tournament is basically 2 weeks of cricket in 1 place - So no traveling. So a 30,000$ on a promise that it will be 60,000$ is pretty attractive to all paki, SL, BD international players. For Indian players who earn nearly million $ in IPL, maybe the short duration in a single place turned it around for them. Now that the league has garnered some attention ( by spamming IPL wikipedia page, giving out vague press kits to make it seem top Indian players will be part of it in the beginning etc), they will be able to sell the tv rights in India for a good sum. They have also kept operating costs low, in the Sri lankan level and hence the players will not demand a bigger cut like in the big bash. So i think, this will earn them a very good profit. In the long term, they just wont be able to maintain it as Somerset will be more interested in its initial success than long term success as SLCB will take over soon. Players also, who were promised double next year, might not turn up if it turns into another ICL. Besides, if BCCI has a qualification round before champions league, the SL team might miss out and lose out on the participation fess.

Just reading this: http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia-v-sri-lanka-2011/content/current/story/520814.html SLC are have been told to cap their security budget for Australia from $400,000 to $81,000!! They are in US$ 23million in debt. How in the world will they pay $30,000 each to the 40 overseas International Players, approx. US $1.2million, without a major TV deal secured. I did warn when SLPL was formed, that this Somerset Co. based in Singapore will be taking SLC for a ride. I would be surprised if the SLPL goes ahead in three weeks in it's current guise.
