A 100 at Lords would be special: Laxman

HYDERABAD: Stylish middle-order batsman VVS Laxman says his dream is to score a century at Lord's and help India win the match during the team's upcoming tour of England. A veteran of 120 Tests, Laxman has scored centuries in some of the famous grounds in the world, but is yet to get one at the Lord's, considered to be the mecca of cricket. "I never got a 100 in England. Hopefully, it would be very special if I get a 100 at Lord's and India wins the match," Laxman said before leaving for the West Indies tour where India will play three Tests, besides the on-going five-match ODI series. Laxman has been appointed deputy to Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the tour of West Indies and England. Showering praise on former coach Gary Kirsten, Laxman hoped that incumbent Duncan Fletcher would continue the good work. "Definitely, we will be missing Gary. He has been with us for the last three years and it is a great experience that we will relish throughout our lives. But Duncan Fletcher has done well with the teams he has been associated with. I am sure the Indian team will prosper during his tenure," Laxman said. The elegant Hyderabadi observed that the upcoming series against the West Indies, England and Australia will Test the world No. 1 side. "There are three tough overseas series. Playing West Indies in West Indies is always a tough competition. My goal is to put up a good performance and play some match-winning knocks," he told reporters. Reflecting further on the West Indies tour, Laxman said, "The first time I opened for the country was in 1997 against West Indies. That series was a great learning experience for me. Opening for the first time and playing the likes of Walsh, Bishop and Ambrose was a great experience for me. "After that, I had a great series in 2002 and the last series also. I am quite happy with my performance against them. West Indies is one of my favourite places to tour, everyone is so knowledgeable and they appreciate the opposition players also if they do well." Laxman expressed confidence that the youngsters will make up for the the absence of senior players like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag in the West Indies. "We all take the responsibility. The replacements Abhinav (Mukund), Murali Vijay, Virat Kohli and there are many upcoming young players. It is a good opportunity for all of them. It is a good team as a whole. So, if we play to the best of our ability, I am sure we can win. We won the series when we toured West Indies last," he said. The batsman also expressed a desire to bat higher up in the order than his usual number five slot. "It would be known after we go there. It depends on strategy, plan, the West Indies wicket. My combination would be decided then. But, I definitely will like to play much ahead in the order," he said. When pointed out that the West Indies lacked experienced players, he said the side cannot be taken lightly as there are some potential match-winners. "They have very good fast bowlers. Though they are young and inexperienced, they are potential match-winners. You have to be cautious. You cannot be complacent. I really don't know wht the fuss is abt scroing a ton at lords .. its one of the 100s of grounds .. with a usual pitch which u get everywhere and some spectators .. The only thing tht is imp is the match situation .. Tht is the only thing which makes a ton memorable ..We guys from India need to come out of this inferiority complex and stop thinking tht whtever the west appreciate is awesome .. They may have left us but they have kept tht ass licking attitude in some ppl here ..

What a non-sense these cricketers are talking of???Shame!!! by Ting Ting (View MyPage) on Jun 07, 2011 10:49 PM Shame that one billion indians are still being fooled by the monotoonous never ending Test Cricket, 3 day cricket,etc, Shame, Hindus&Indians.It is time india and poor countries ban Test Cricket and 3 day macthes forever and Play ONLY T20 matches so that millions of man or woman hours are NOT lost watching monotonous test crciket and 3 day macthes,etc. BCCI and rulers are still behaving as slaves of Westerners, shame they have appointed white skinned westerners as coach, assistant coach etc paying millions of dollars though we have excellent indian coaches like jimmy amarnath, madan lal and so mnay other who can do better jobs than foreigners. BCCI and government must NOT allow more than 2 foreign players in each team and that will gove greater opportunity to indians as well. What a shame that BCCI and rulers are behaving as slaves of westerners even now or are they getting huge kick-backs in the deals involving forein players,etc, Millions of cricket fans must not allow our country to be looted again by foreigners and goreign business houses any more.Hope millions of indians are listening and that they will take necessary action to give justice to indian public and indian players and national honour and pride too. :hysterical: Here is another gem. No, thats what you have been fed time and time again till you believe it like a robot. Even a 100 in a losing cause can be remembered till time immemoriable while some of the match winning 100s are so boring that they are not rememembered by anyine first rule of cricket, enjoy what you like, and forget about what others say is important. Cricket is much more than stats, winning or losing, no matter how much you would like to think otherwise BTW, if you dont see what the fuss around scoring a 100 at Lords is, stick to football, cricket is not your game

100 in a losing cause is remembered by losers only and I have no plan to be one of ur kind .. ;) and I even don't give a damn abt scoring at lords or any ground .. Just get ur team win even if u r playing in some galli mohalla match .. Ur attitude of "cricket is more than winning and losing" is typical 80s-90s losing and western boot licking mentality...
