Does the skill level in a sport go up with time?

Bats are much better these days. Bradman did not have that technology. Then covered vs uncovered pitches in those old days etc. Difficult to compare and say VS is better than Bradman etc.
On the other hand, you can also say that Bradman never had to face varied bowling or had to play in different type of pitches and weather conditions.Physical attributes werent exactly given importance either. The bowlers didnt have the technology to find the minute error in his techniques, although it works both ways. Plus he never played anything but test cricket, so never had to compromise or adjust his game. There are a lot of factors that make it easier in the 30's but there are also a lot of factors that made it harder. So it is impossible to judge. But i do believe that if Bradman played today, he wouldnt be as successful as he was.

Even more staggering : McGrath-Warne-Gillespie have conceded 400+ 9 times out of 126 test matches on flat pancakes with protective gear. 3 out of 4 or all 4 of Marshall-Holding-Garner-Roberts managed to do that in 82 tests.
Shwetabh, I'm usually a fan of your posts, but seriously, you need to stop. Professionals, batsmen and bowlers who've been around a long time have repeatedly said that the WI attack was far superior than anything Australia trotted out. Guys who've played this game for a living and did it well during those times will tell you as you much and have.

The Windies pace bowlers of Marshall, Garner, Roberts, Holding et.al. fame can teach a thing or two to the Aus bowlers. Aus bowlers are very good, make no mistake, but the WI ruled the roost. Batsmen shivered when WI were raging.

Bottom line; You cant compare eras' date=' under no circumstances whatsoever.[/quote'] Similar to exam marks etc. There may have been times when getting a 70/100 in Biology was super, then 90/100 was super, then 100/100 was super etc. Cant compare a topper in one era to a topper in another era.
