J P K Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 NEW DELHI: Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has attained full fitness while his more illustrious teammate Virender Sehwag may just make it in time for selection for the England tour beginning on July 15. The touring party will be announced on July 2 by the BCCI. "Gambhir is undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and is fully fit for the upcoming England tour. He is back to his normal training schedule and is working hard on his fitness. He was in Delhi for three days early this month but during that time he was practicing light," said his coach Sanjay Bhardwaj on Friday. Gambhir, who decided to skip the ongoing West Indies tour because of shoulder injury he sustained during the World Cup, was at the centre of a club-versus-country debate over his decision. Sehwag, who was operated for a recurring shoulder injury last month, is yet to hit the nets but his coach, AN Sharma, expressed confidence on his ward touring England. "I had a word with him a day before. He is improving very fast and the rehabilitation is on expected lines. Although he has not started batting practice yet, he is very keen to tour England and should be available for selection," Sharma said. Sehwag himself is pushing hard to be fit in time. "I am getting better and working hard on my fitness. Hopefully, I will be back soon. I am trying very hard to so that I can play in England," he was quoted as saying by an agency. There are important series down the year as well and let Sehwag recover fully well and hurry his recovery and pay the price later on. India tours Aus later in the year and Sehwag would be more crucial in Aus IMO than Eng. Sehwag was picked for T20 Cup held in Eng in 2009 as it was assumed he will get fit in time but it lead to disaster. Better get used to the fact that Sehwag won't be around for the series and prepare accordingly.

Australia is right at the end of the year and England will be a tougher challenge than Australia. Yup Eng will be more difficult opposition but this is a great chance to win our first series in Aus. Sehwag is more likely to succeed on hard pitches of Aus than Eng's seaming pitches and no point in jeopardizing his chances of playing Aus series if he isn't fully fit for Eng one. If the recovery process gets derailed and Sehwag is re-injured it will take at least 6-8 months to get fit again and this will make him miss out on Aus series. I don't think India can beat Aus in Aus without Sehwag's aggression at the top whereas we should be able to manage against Eng as Sehwag has hardly succeeded against Eng and the other Indian batsmen generally love playing against Eng.

Remember this is the same injury he had suffered in 2009 and for which he had been operated upon. But back then he rushed his comeback. Surely this time we need to be extra careful with him.

Yes, he is more likely to score in Australia but with Sehwag one great innings in the series could help us greatly even if he doesn't succeed consistently (pref at Trent Bridge or Edgbaston since we should get results there is the weather is decent).

India has managed pretty well against Eng without a major contribution from Sehwag. Somehow our batting lineup matches up well with England and we will do fine. On the other hand our batsmen seldom succeed in Aus and Sehwag's role would be absolutely crucial in Aus. The anti-BCCI lot will have a field day!, :haha:, though would love to see BCCI flex their muscle on this one...i dunno say all players are suffering food poisoning or something.
