The 53-year-old former Australia international has previously coached Surrey and New South Wales and will meet with Sri Lanka officials as the search for Tom Moody's successor continues. Queensland Bulls coach Terry Oliver is believed to be the front-runner for the post, while New South Wales coach Trevor Bayliss has also been linked with the role. Sri Lankan authorities have interviewed 44-year-old Oliver, who is contracted to the Bulls until the end of the 2007/08 season. "We have shortlisted three candidates including Steve Rixon and we are very hopeful we will have the right candidate with the required credentials to take on the job," Secretary of the Sri Lankan Interim Committee, K Madivanan, told PA Sport. "We are hopeful we will be able to finalise everything before the end of the month as it is important to have everything place soon." Moody guided Sri Lanka to the final of the recent World Cup in the Caribbean before opting to take up a coaching role with Western Australia. Interim Sri Lanka coach Trevor Penney will take charge of the side for the upcoming series against Bangladesh.
