ganeshran Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 It is great that Sachin will be awarded the country's highest civilian award for entertaining all of us by hitting a leather ball with a block of wood . I hope ALL Sports are included without prejudice ..including Video games. we all look forward to the day when somebody receives the highest civilian award for being the best in Quake 4 & counter strike. What a lahori logic :wall:
bulbul Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Sach will get that just before some major election :winky:
Magneto Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Dhyanchand should be top of the line ... before anyone else.
Raghav_12 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Agree 100% Despite all Sachin's great achievements, he still chose the cash-rich IPL over playing for India in WI (note: he doesn't have a shortage of cash by any means). I would not give Bharat Ratna to Sachin. Vishy Anand, Abhinav Bindra deserve it more. What about Kabaddi team which won world cup recently?
bulbul Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 What about Kabaddi team which won world cup recently? what do u say?
amiret Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Indian Scientists & Mathematicians need to learn from Sachin Tendulkar. Not only do you have to be the best in your chosen field/profession ...you also have to Entertain all of us before you can be nominated for the Bharat Ratna.:--D
akshayxyz Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 If they have modified to accommodate Cricket, Hockey etc. they should modify to include Anand (Chess) also. "Chess is not sports" is very superficial reason to deprive Anand of well deserved Bharat Ratna.
amiret Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Let us also not forget the greatest Indian Kabbadi player of all time. Just because kabbadi is not popular does not mean the greatest Indian kabbadi player of all time does not deserve a Bharat Ratna. After all Popularity is not a criteria for the highest civilian award.
carnish Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 DHYANCHAND, VISHY, SACHIN, and 10 years from now PANKAJ ADVANI :yay:
Magneto Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 DHYANCHAND' date=' VISHY, SACHIN, and 10 years from now PANKAJ ADVANI :yay:[/quote'] not Kohli? :winky:
akshayxyz Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 DHYANCHAND' date=' VISHY, SACHIN, and 10 years from now [b']PANKAJ ADVANI :yay: no. Even if you have to pick someone from billiards Sethi is more deserving than him. Besides, international billiards scene is practically dead - so even number of world billiards titles does not mean much. Not in same league as SRT/VISHY. As for snooker - Pankaj is nothing in international Snooker and I don't foresee it changing even in 20 years.
Jersey #10 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Sachin deserves it more than anyone else. Just because the Bharat Ratna was altered a bit doesn't mean any era gera natthu gera should be awarded the highest civilian award. Sachin and dhyanchand are probably the only two in the nation worthy of this award.
akshayxyz Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Vishy is not aera gera.. he is equally deserving as SRT.

Jersey #10 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Vishy is not aera gera.. he is equally deserving as SRT. deserving of what? He's legendary but he doesn't play sports
akshayxyz Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 It's not a sport it's a board "game" :whack: deserving of what? He's legendary but he doesn't play sports "Chess is not sports" is as lame / superficial reason as it was to say Cricket is not service to society. Even if Chess is just mind sport - it takes years of consistent hardwork to stay at the top of the world - in something as competitive as Chess. He has been at the edge of human limits of playing chess for quite some time - which is as big an achievement as it comes.

How hard is that to understand? I am sure there are other categories for smart people and also that there are probably smarter people than vishy in the nation.
Jersey #10 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Definition of sport under Oxford dictionary - an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment picking up the chess pieces with your hands does not count as physical exertion Definition of Chess - a board game of strategic skill for two players, played on a chequered board on which each playing piece is moved according to precise rules. The object is to put the opponent’s king under a direct attack from which escape is impossible (checkmate).
