wobblydoggy Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Does that mean I cant question ECB and english cricket? You are not. You fail to note the ICC guidelines on Foreign players qualification period etc or elligability due to parentage.

asterix Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Old Article, still relevant.. Ashley Giles: Foreign players taking English players' opportunities England cricket selector Ashley Giles has criticised county clubs for shirking rigorous national scouting in favour of "easy shopping" abroad, and in doing so undermining the national team. County cricket has seen an influx of foreigners, mainly from South Africa, who take advantage of a legal loophole in European free-trade agreements and move to the UK. The England and Wales Cricket Board are currently waiting for permission from the European Union to block these so-called Kolpak players. Giles, director of coaching at Warwickshire, who incidentally have four players from South Africa in their current squad, is one of a four-man selection panel for the England team. He believes that by allowing numerous South Africans into county level cricket, home-grown players are being suffocated. He said: "We've got a serious problem and it will only get worse. "I was aware of it before but it has become more obvious to me since taking this coaching job. We've let this situation creep up on us so that it has reached ridiculous proportions. "As an England selector, I sometimes think: 'Who am I supposed to be looking at here?' It's dangerous for our game and I think it has gone too far already. It has to be pulled back, but how we do that, I just don't know." Giles added: "This is a responsibility that lies with the counties, who should produce players who can play Test cricket for England. They get handouts from the ECB and that's what they should be doing. "Signing Kolpak players is like easy shopping, internet shopping. Instead of getting out there and doing the hard yards trying to find what you're looking for, you can just have it delivered to your door." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/international/england/2302170/Ashley-Giles-Foreign-players-taking-English-players-opportunities.html
wobblydoggy Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Totally immature posts. Can you guys please stop questioning his citizenship and try to debate by sticking to the topic. Good point. Why do I think that India do not value their No1 Status. 1/ They were/are poorly prepared for this test match series that could if results go against them, see them lose that No1 Status. 2/ The selectors have allowed the senior players too much power and so are a divided camp at times
wobblydoggy Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Old Article' date=' still relevant..[/quote'] Kolpak players are those that play for SA etc, but earn extra playing for English teams out of season, so not what you think the article meant

That happened because of the busy international calendar. The second point is wrong. The Selectors and captain have complete control over team selection. If the team has any divisions none of them ever surfaced to the public.

The IPL is not the international calender and allowing great bowlers like Khan to get fat and stay in the team smacks of lax management IMHO

Harrby has fans just like another player. There are a lot of players who have fans despite showing poor form. IPL didnt allow Zaheer to get fat. It was his personal mistake that he didnt keep fit in the break he got between IPL and the England tour.
asterix Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I have an issue with certain eligibility criteria. The 4 year residence rule is ridiculous. It should atleast be 7 to 10 years before applying for citizenship. It's this 4year (very short and advantageous) eligibilty criteria has helped ECB to make a team of mercenaries when it can't get proper home grown talent to boast. The joy of having a home grown team to be at the top of the World will always be elusive from the England cricket fans and we all can understand their pain. We also understand their hollow joy in trying to reach the top of the ranking piggybacking on foriegn mercenaries by using a convenient merely 4 years citzenship rule. If you check how Eoin Morgan was drafted in the team within couple of months, you will understand the power of TCCB/ECB in cricketing affairs. Their treatment of Zimbawean cricket and lack of support to Zimbabwean cricket is considered to be most ruthless act by England as a top nation in Cricket. Eligibility of players The England cricket team represents England and Wales. However, under ICC regulations[1], players can qualify to play for a country by nationality, place of birth or residence, so (as with any national sports team) some people are eligible to play for more than one team. ECB regulations[2] state that to play for England, a player must be a British or Irish citizen, and have either been born in England or Wales, or have lived in England or Wales for the last four years. This has led to players of many other nationalities becoming eligible to play for England. Of the current squad (see above), Andrew Strauss, Matt Prior, Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, Craig Kieswetter and Michael Lumb are all South-African-born but qualify through British parentage (though they still had to fulfil residency requirements), whilst Eoin Morgan is an Irish citizen and Jade Dernbach has British citizenship having lived in England since his youth. England have been captained by a Scot (Mike Denness), four South African-born players (Tony Greig, Allan Lamb, Andrew Strauss and Kevin Pietersen), three Indian-born players (Douglas Jardine, Colin Cowdrey and Nasser Hussain), Italian-born (Ted Dexter) and Australian-born (Gubby Allen). South African Cape Coloured player Basil D'Oliveira famously played for England during the Apartheid era, whilst other notable players of the past 20 years include Graeme Hick (Zimbabwe), Andrew Caddick (New Zealand) and Geraint Jones (Papua New Guinea/Australia). Further, ICC regulations allow cricketers who represent associate (i.e. non-Test-playing) nations to switch to a Test-playing nation, provided nationality requirements are fulfilled. In recent years, this has seen Irish internationals Ed Joyce and Eoin Morgan switch to represent England, whilst Gavin Hamilton previously played for Scotland – though four years after his last appearance for England, he became eligible to play for Scotland again. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England_cricket_team

Personally I supported our stance on Zimbawean cricket as their primeminster was using it as a political football. I also felt it would be terrible to send our team there whilst many farmers of English and European backgrounds were being tortured and murdered jmho
wobblydoggy Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Everyone stop attacking doggy.... My handle on here 'Wobblydoggy' comes from my now dead labrador. Yes we are a very funny nation I must admit

Guys, this is not decent, here at ICF, we are not for deleting posts, threads etc unless it is extreme situations such as this one. Kindly refrain from personal attacks, politics etc. This is the cricket sub-forum, kindly stick to cricket. This is the last warning on this, following which there will be threads locked and infractions/bans handed to people who are non-compliant. We hope we are making ourselves quite clear.

You made a blanket warning to everyone to stop fighting. Several people continued, but not me. I note now that all my posts have been deleted but the ones who made the most inflammatory posts have not been deleted and are still there and are still making inflammatory posts
Maundy Gregory Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Not quite. Forum rules are clear on flaming other posters. Don't make me read out the riot act to you. Forum rules aren't clear at all. I got booted when I followed a directive from Chandan to stay on topic (I stopped posting), then all my posts got deleted, yet those who continued to made inflammatory off topic remarks were allowed to continue to do so. If you make some rules, you need to a) make people aware of them b) apply them to everyone

Forum directives are quite clear and you don't even know who received infractions and who didn't. This thread had had 130+ posts deleted. All can't be yours. You just have to worry about yourself here. And if you find others post insulting/offensive/off topic or not suitable in any way, please report it to the moderators giving your reasons. The report button is on the left side. This way you will be helping the moderators as it is extremely tough for us to keep an eye on each and every post.
