New Delhi: India's World Cup winning captain skipper MS Dhoni and maverick West Indies all-rounder Chris Gayle are among the nominees for the ICC People's Choice Award for the year 2011. South Africa batsman Hashim Amla, England's Jonathan Trott and former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara are other contenders for the award. The nominees were shortlisted by an elite panel of cricket experts headed by former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd, along with Pakistan's Zaheer Abbas, England's Mike Gatting, South Africa's Paul Adams and New Zealand's Danny Morrison. Criteria for selection are: The nominees should have displayed innovation, dynamism, strength in decision-making, performing well under pressure and executing a plan to distinction. For the second time in the history of the ICC Awards, fans from across the globe can decide the winner by online voting. They can log on to www.lgpeopleschoice.com and vote for their favourite contender. Voting will be open until 11am GMT on 25 August with the winner will be announced on 12 September at the LG ICC Awards in London. The inaugural People Choice Award was won By Sachin Tendulkar in 2010. "The inaugural LG People's ICC Awards, which was won by Sachin Tendulkar, proved hugely popular among fans across the globe and showed us just how much voting for their cricketing heroes meant," ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said. The LG ICC Awards is now a prestigious event in the cricketing calendar and we are delighted that fans will again be able to have their say on who should win one of the awards in 2011," he added.

No I thought that Dhoni's leadership up to and including him seeing the team lift the one day trophy makes him the desrving winner. Imagine the pressure he was under from you lot:--D

I care about all cricket, but I care most about test cricket. Reason, test cricket when a tight match produces the highest levels of batting and bowling IMHO

I think all these people's choice contests should be stopped, the Indian mob just shouts down everyone else with overwhelming numbers. This is why you have farcical results like the All time test XI where Sobers or Miller were not in the team.
