adhishwar Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 He is still wrong. Age does not matter as only can only develop fast twitch muscles if one tries to bowl fast even at a younger age. One cannot start working on them and develop them at 25. This process starts from age 15-16 when one tries to bowl fast in the nets. This leads to bring those muscles in use regularly and this ensures they develop over time. Fast twitch muscles cannot be 'developed' They are natural. THats why an Umesh Yadav or a Varun Aaron bowls 145 and Irfan Pathan bowls 130. If you can 'develop' fast twitch muscles I'm sure every John dick and harry will be bowling 150.

Sorry to say it but this sort of view is as outdated as you cannot increase the pace of a bowler. I suggest you educate yourselves by reading this: http://www.athleticquickness.com/increase_muscle_speed.asp It's just one of the 1,000s of articles on how to develop fast twitch muscle fibres you can easily find if you actually looked and stopped repeating myths that are simply untrue. The problem many of us have in India is we just repeat things that people like Simmons, TA Sekhar, Wasim Akram, Dawes, Srinath, venky etc etc etc and many others say because we believe them. the reason they say what they say about pace is because they do not know how to develop it fully, or how to train it or coach it. Yet we revere them as 'gurus' when they just don't really know how to increase a bowler's speed correctly A few speed coaches exist for fast bowling but there are only one or two out there. If the BCCI is serious about pace they should get one of them to do the job properly instead of going down this old route where nothing will ever change.

True,In this day and age we still believe 1980's theory and some even say eating beef makes you bowl fast :hysterical::hysterical:.

Why don't you apply for the post then? You seem to know more than the best coaches in the world do. If it can be developed by now, I think there would be someone quicker than Usain Bolt and bowling quicker than the fastest. Who are your coaches who know how to 'develop' the fast bowler? Even Ian Chappell that day spoke highly of Sekar saying he's one of the best fast bowling coaches around the world and is highly respected.
MUMBAISKIPPER Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 If Venky is called back,Indian "Fast" bowlers will turn into spin bowlers

I don't claim to know better than anyone. I was correcting you on the fact that fast twitch muscles can be developed. It's how people throw further, run faster, jump higher, hit harder. You think that bowling faster would be obvious then. The reason it isn't is that cricket coaches just don't know how. Instead they talk about players being born with speed, as those coaches are not able to make a difference. People who don't know the answer will not even ask the question!!! Think about it bhai. My point was, it IS possible to do it. Finding a fast bowling expert who teaches pace would be the solution. Why not do the research your self and Google it? I found this out there independently (because I wanted to find out myself who is out there) at the top of the google list "teaching speed into bowlers": http://www.pitchvision.com/cricket-coaching/course/how-to-bowl-faster/9 Final point. Ian Chappell? Understanding fast bowling and making recommendations? Brother of Greg Chappell who was a disaster for India and didn't know how to coach our players? Ian Chappell still thinks the ball swings when it's humid or cloudy. Getting a recommendation from him is almost as bad as (batsman) Lehman and (physio) Berry recommending their friend Joe Dawes.
