Desi Cartman Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 I have a laptop with VLC, and a media player connected to the TV with file sharing enabled on the network. I m trying to create a LIVE stream which I can play using the media center in mp4 and watch on TV. Is it possible or shall I return my Media Center ?

Im confused ... basically I need VLC to write it to a temp file and the media player to read it on the go. I tried the same with Wii which didnt work either .. man I suck at these things :((

VLC stream would be over internet/network. Is your media player able to connect to network? Can you verify that?

Had it like that for years but now im trying to do that wirelessly as I don't want cables lying around as my daughter is walking now and I have too many wires around the house.

If I can't get it to stream by hook or crook then I'll return it

Too much of wifi/radiations might not also be very healthy for kids.. it is a grey area and at least wires are relatively safe from that perspective. I would rather layout the wire's along the walls/corners.

You basically have to install a s/w on it which will do live stream and frankly the one I tried with my asus media player is not as simple. So the next best thing is a browser playing it. You basically need it to play .asf ( most live streams ) I just received my samsung tv yesterday and supposedly it has a lot of apps but I will have to figure this live stream option too. I want everything wireless now, cant stand cables with dust

If you have media player, its like having a dvd player with your entire collection. One of the fundamentals is aspect ratio, I change it constantly as every file/movie needs a different size to be watched

I always play through network share and it works great. I was suggesting laptop only for streaming which desi wants to play.

ganeshran Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Hey daisy, I was able to do this. Its supported in WD Live TV. You need to use your PC as a media server (it is supported in Windows 7) and connect your WD player to the network. Then enable media streaming through control panel -> Network and Sharing -> Media Streaming options. After this you can use Windows media player to control your player and stream video to it
