In another revelation the pacer has accused Shahrukh Khan and Lalit Modi of cheating him during IPL. Speaking exclusively to TOI, the fastest bowler in the history of cricket, marked by a short, tempestuous career, explains his story, full of trauma, success - and controversy. He retired from cricket following the 2011 World Cup. Why this book now? "I am in peace post-retirement, giving all the attention I ever wanted to my old parents, but this book has not been a sudden thing. A whole year and a half went into it. What I've written is my experience, put as honestly for others to know. This is the truth - for the world, it may be a big controversy. It saddens me to hear all kind of stories about Pakistani cricket in the world. People should know what we go through and why we are the way we are." Akhtar describes the severe class discrimination marring Pakistani cricket, the arrogance of the Pakistan Cricket Board ( PCB), his humiliation and his failures - including ball-tampering and even attacking teammates with a bat. Alongside, he takes on Pakistani and international players, coaches, selectors, the media, Lalit Modi, Javed Miandad, Wasim Aqram - even Pervez Musharraf. The fast bowler, also called the Rawalpindi Express has made some extremelty sensational claims in his recently released biography, ironically titled, Controversially Yours. ‘Sachin was scared of me’ According to reports, Shoaib Akhtar has bragged that the famous Sachin Tendulkar was scared of him and his deliveries. Accoring to an excerpt, Shoaib says, “"I bowled (Sachin) a particularly fast ball which he, to my amazement didn't even touch. He walked away! That was the first time I saw him walk away from me-that, too, on the slow track at Faisalabad." ‘Dravid-Tendulkar not match winners’ And that’s not all, Shoaib, who holds the record for the fatest delivery in cricket (100.2mph), also claims that Rahul ‘The Wall’ Dravid and Tendulkar were not match winner. According to reports, Shoaib has said in the book, “I think players like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid weren't exactly match winners to start with, nor did they know the art of finishing the game.” ‘I tampered with the ball’ However, the most shocking part of the biography is Shoaib Akhtar’s admission of ball tampering. In a chapter of the book not only does he admit to tampering with the ball but also adds that he did so on a number of occasions. Shoaib adds that it’s not just him but everyone else also does the same. He adds that a solution would be to legalise this in the larger interest of the game. ‘Cheated by Shahrukh Khan and Lalit Modi’ Writing about IPL, Shoaib Akhtar has said that he was unhappy about the money he got from the league. He adds that he felt cheated by Shah Rukh Khan and former IPL Chairman Lalit Modi. He states, "Shahrukh and I talked about my not being happy with the money settled on me. Shahrukh and Modi got me to agree. I should have never listened to Modi and Shahrukh." ‘Wasim was against me’ It was not just Indian players that Shoaib seems upset with. Many Pakistani cricketers, selectors have also found themselves in the line of fire in his biography. He takes potshots at Shoaib Malik calling him a stooge of the PCB chief Naseem Ashraf. He also claims that the famous Pakistani bowler Wasim Akram wanted to end his career. "Wasim Akram threatened to walk out with half the team if I was included in the team. General Tauqir Zia backed Shoaib against Wasim." The explosive biography maps Shoaib Akhtar’s journey from his deprived childhood to his peak in international cricket. In 2005, in the Test series against Australia he was sent back for “unprofessional attitude”. In 2006, Shoaib was embroiled in the drug controversy after testing positive for banned stimulants. In September 2007, he picked a fight with teammate Mohammed Asif. In 2008, he was banned for five years for criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board. In October 2008, the Lahore High Court suspended the ban. However, Shoaib Akhtar retired from international cricket after the 2011 World Cup.

jeeves Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 its just a gimmick to sell his book. i remember him talking about bouncing tendulkar out before the 2003 world cup encounter.what happened next,- he was shredded to pieces by tendulkar.he had to chuck the ball to get him out. think he needs to be reminded of that. sad that TOI offered to cover this **** interview
