speed_demon Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 my concern is, if he is, as he acknowledges, not fit, and if there is a chance he can aggravate his condition, why even go to australia?
CG Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 my concern is' date=' if he is, as he acknowledges, not fit, and if there is a chance he can aggravate his condition, why even go to australia?[/quote'] right he should have surgery now
Dravid_TheWall Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 It is this kind of delay that is causing problems for us. I understand how critical he is for the Aus tour due to be being able to utilise the bounce on offer, but there is a risk he could aggravate his injury. He should undergo surgery asap and his absence should be seen as an opportunity to new bowlers. Is Tyagi fit? Like for like replacement.
Rahul Dravid Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 sportsmen delay their surgeries all the time.... its okay, if they can still take part and play.. ishant i think still can.. WE NEED HIM IN AUSTRALIA...... prime examples are in basketball where guys delay their surgeries in order to play the playoffs.. the kobe's carter's tmac's have all done it.... its the way to go. not delay to too far, but if possible why not. the aussie tour is very crucial in alot of ways.
IKnowU Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 As long as he is taking rehab and precautions, its all good. unlike sehwag
Fontaine Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Pretty much expected. Asking a 22 year old bowler to bowl 435 overs in 12 months is always going to result in injury. The only fast bowler to bowl more overs is Anderson and he's been injured recently also. The next three pacers with the most overs in the last 12 months have all also been injured (Tremlett/Zaheer/Broad).

Wonder how PK escaped a major injury as he too has bowled 270+ overs in similar time frame and let us not forget that he played the 5 ODIs as well in WI. We'll certainly lose him for home matches. Just hope that Aaron steps up. Has he reached England yet? As for Ishant, selectors will never learn. They just can't see that the guy is a test match bowler and keep naming him in the ODI squad. Hope the strengthening exercises improves his fitness. The guys is too fragile.
kabira Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Just go and check, how many hours C. Walsh used to bowl in one year. Go and check how many over Kapil used to bowl. how many overs did Akram bowled. Remember Walsh and Akram played county cricket, most of the time full season. The more you bowl, better your body gets equipped. If you can't bowl 20 overs in a day, you should not be fast bowler.
Crookbond Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Ankle surgery after Australia tour - Ishant http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/current/story/530159.html Ishant Sharma has said he will undergo surgery on his injured ankle after the conclusion of India's tour of Australia tour early next year. Ishant was ruled out of the limited-overs series against England after he sustained a ligament injury to his left ankle during the third Test at Edgbaston. "It [the tour of Australia] is a very important tour and nobody wants to miss it," Ishant told the Hindustan Times. So I'll get the surgery done only after the Australian tour. I am going to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, where I'll stay for a week or 10 days to undergo rehab and seek a proper schedule. At the moment, I've been told to do strengthening exercises." At the time of the announcement of the team for the limited-overs series, a board release said Ishant had responded well to treatment on his ligament "but will need to undergo a course of intensive rehabilitation and training to prevent recurrence of the pain in his left ankle". Ishant, however, said surgery was unavoidable. "I have a ligament tear in my left foot, and there is also a bone impingement in my left ankle. Surgery is the only way out. But if I undergo that now, my foot will be in plaster for about three months and the rehabilitation in all could take about 6-8 months." India travel to Australia in December and will play four Tests, two Twenty20s and a tri-series also involving Sri Lanka, with the final game of that tournament slated for February 28. A rehab period of six to eight months means Ishant could miss the IPL, which is expected to be played in April-May 2012, as well as a yet unconfirmed Test and ODI series against Pakistan prior to that. India tour Sri Lanka for three Tests in July, and then host New Zealand for three Tests in August-September. This will be followed by the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka and the Champions League. If Ishant goes through with his plan, he is only likely to be back when India host England for four Tests in November-December. Ishant had a busy Test series in England from the time Zaheer Khan injured himself on the first day at Lord's. He was the second-highest wicket-taker for India in their 0-4 defeat and said Zaheer's absence had a bearing on the team's performance. "You can't say our morale went down," Ishant said. "We were always in the game. But if a bowler with 10 years of experience isn't there, it affects the performance. We had England on the ropes in the second innings at Lord's, and if Zaheer was there and had taken a couple of wickets, the result could have been different." Ishant dismissed Kevin Pietersen with a short ball in the second innings of the Lord's Test, a wicket he will "cherish a lot". He said bowling in English conditions had been a tremendous learning experience. "Bowling in different venues in different conditions teaches you a lot. In India, you know that after the initial burst, you have to wait for the third or fourth day to get something i.e. reverse swing. In England, if the sun is out and there is no moisture on the track, it gets really very flat and that makes it tough to bowl on."
IKnowU Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Ishant is the only future we have atm. He has the tools, we just have to nurture it. Look at Anderson, back 4 yrs we all thought he was some mid 130kph trundler. Now hes matured and has experience and is one of the best atm going around.

But tell me where Kapil and Walsh have bowled 300 overs or more in test match situations within 2 months and have not broken down and I'll agree. Just tell me and give me the links. I can give you the link of Ishant and PK. Ishant Sharma: June 20, 2011 to Aug 22, 2011 vs WI: 123 .5 overs vs England: 173.3 Total : 297.2 Praveen Kumar : from June 6, 2011 to Aug 13, 2011 vs WI (ODIs) : 40 vs WI :110 va Eng:158.3 Total: 308.3
kabira Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Go and check C. Walsh's county record. http://www.cricketarchive.co.uk/Archive/Players/1/1764/f_Bowling_by_Season.html 1989 3000 odd balls he bowled in county 1990 3600 odd balls 1992 3500 odd balls Remember county seaons are very hectic. those days they had 60 or 55 over competitions. He did bowl lot of overs, but never broke down.
akshayxyz Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 :headshake: You can't blame Ishant much..bad management/guidance. Besides, if there is a problem identified, why delay!!, delaying will only worsen it. total lack of foresight there.

Sorry but there is a huge difference between county cricket and test match cricket and where did they bowl 1800+ balls in 60 days in test match situation?
achilles Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 And we think our "cool", "awesome" captain handles his players well!
Yoda-esque Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Am getting reminded of Samuel L Jackson in "Unbreakable" after seeing our bowlers. Somebody give them a glass stick.
kabira Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Sorry but there is a huge difference between county cricket and test match cricket and where did they bowl 1800+ balls in 60 days in test match situation? well doesn't matter its still bowling and he took wickets also, so he was consistent. The reason they bowled that many overs especially in England because they bowled poorly and ended up bowling tons of overs.
