Gautam Gambhir seems to be a shadow of his previous self..

Recommended Posts

Gambhir provides stability to an innings..He is required in this otherwise manic batting line up full of explosive batsmen.. Once set, he is difficult to contain and steadily increases his scoring rate..My only issue is his fielding. That said, it was unfortunate he slipped while attempting to take a catch..
:nice:

he might have dropped a catch yesterday but otherwise he is one of the better fielders in the team.

Ya I agree with Asterix ' date='he is a terrible fielder and a nervous catcher, never looks comfortable under a high ball[/quote'] I agree DHON his fielding has gone down few years ago he was much better fielder and even during initial stages of his innings he is quite shaky but yes he did made up for the balls he blocked

Noone is complaning about his batting ,this Jonas dude is a joker ,but Gauti seruiously need to improve his fielding and be a more confident catcher

I thought Botha bowled well to him at the start thats why he looked shaky but later on he played his trademark inside out shots for 4s .And yes we need a 100 from him soon :nice:

We should have attacked BOTHA DHON we allowed him to bowl well if VIRU was there he would have murdered his bowling

GG does NOT need to be dropped...that is just beyond reasonable thinking! Even by troll standards. He has made decent contributions and belongs in this batting order. Having said that, he needs to plan his hitting areas when he is trying to force the issue. The game against SA he was moving to the leg side to create room to hit on the off. Worked couple of times but the bowlers soon realized his tactics and started bowling at his legs or even outside leg stump to prevent him from hitting over the top through the off side. I remember this cycle continuing for 2-3 overs...I was just yelling at him (TV screen of course) to not move and just see the obvious thing that the bowlers have figured out his plan. He could easily stay put and the balll would go for a wide or would be bowled at his body which we could muscle through the leg side. Targeting both sides of the field would not only confuse the bowler but also the captain...he would have to set a split field as occasionally GG could still move down leg side and hit over off to keep the guessing game going. I was surprised that he didn't see this tactic from the SA bowlers. I am sure he will learn and be ready next time :P

Gambhir starts with accumulating singles. It's very important to understand at what stage he is coming out..If I would be the captain, I would analyse the situation and the batsman I have. So if it's a good start and Sehwag+Sachin has set a platform with runs on board and 6.5 runs per over, I'll not send Gambhir 1 down especially when Sachin is batting..You can't expect Sachin to take quick singles at this stage which Gambhir looks for in the initial stages of his innings..Sending Gambhi will slow down the scoring rate. I would either send Kohli who is a good striker or UV who himslef is not a keen singles runner.. Gambhir will pair with Dhoni, who himself is a very good runner between the wickets and Dhoni too likes to build his innings. I would never send batsmen like Pathan up the order..Batsmen like Pathan should only be taken out of their cages when you need a quick burst at the later stages on the innings..He is not a PP specialist..

Gambhir Is The Best Well..We have too many cricketers who are PINCH HITTERS. That is they have no technique and just try to hit. This works only 1 out of 10 times. Gambhir and Tendulkar are the only two batsman who are technically sound. You dont have score runs by hitting sixes alone. If you can score a run a ball then why hit a six. You can see how many teams have scored over 300 in a game. Gambhir is best batsman under pressure. He has the technique and plays as is needed by the team.
