The below post is what I meant by the assumption. We constantly look for planets that are similar to earth's conditions to speculate if life could be present on them. Actual alien species may thrive in conditions completely different to those on earth.

This is correct - sometimes though they will give you a 'brokerage window' - I think that term means you can buy shares in any company similar to open market. Have you seen those?
No I can't say I have. That said it would not be surprising if this feature - brokerage window - is restricted to certain plans and certain providers. Coming back to 401k, last 2 years(and more) most of us have taken a big hit. My service provider used to have a plan where you can keep liquid cash. So when market tanked I moved money into it. Then of course they shut it down. Now every month I put in my 6% and see it get devalued. Talk of being plundered in front of you. At the very least every provider should have a plan where people can put their money as cash, they should not be forced to select one of the crappy plans.
