B]No injury, Ishant expected to be in playing XI for first TestG.S. Vivek Posted: Dec 20, 2011 at 0352 hrs IST Print EmailTo Editor New Delhi: Notwithstanding the recent speculations about his fitness, Ishant Sharma is expected to be in the playing XI for the Boxing Day Test. Those close to the pacer say that the reason for his shortened spell in the first tour game wasnÃÕ an injury but a discomfort that he felt in his ankle because of an abnormal bone growth. The 23-year-old has been dealing with the problem by tightly taping the affected area since the last two years, and the Team India support staff, at least for now, are sticking to the same treatment in the lead up to the first Test that starts on December 26. But if the inflammation caused due to the bone growth does not subside, the treatment could change. Ūt is not a ligament or muscle tear. Things are under control. Though, if the problem continues we might have to administer a cortisone injection, said someone who has helped Sharma regain fitness after the England tour. He went to add that there were three ways to deal with SharmaÃÔ problem. Å©is ankle can be strengthened by rest and rehabilitation, surgically removing the growth or by using approved steroids to temporarily reduce the pain, he said. Those in the know say that the Indian team management has already applied for a Therapeutic Usage Exemption (TUE) certificate. And if physiotherapy fails in reducing the pain, the paceman would be left with no option but to take a cortisone injection. Å´harma had taken these shots during the 2007 Australia ODI series, he said. Surgery likely after Tests It is also learnt that Sharma is expected to undergo surgery after the Test series and this will mean a six months break from the game for the pacer. Sharma was pain-free while turning out for Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 tournament as well as bowling in the West Indies series after having completed his rehabilitation and ankle strengthening routine at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore
