wobblydoggy Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Not any more pal. The need for Indian money is too great. While we are on the subject, the biggest rivalry in cricket is definitely India-Pakistan. There is no doubt about that. Not in real cricketing terms. The Ashes is a real test steeped in history, India - Pakistan is more a regional dispute:haha:

Sundar88 Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Let's forget about ODI cricket. It's for countries who don't know how to play real cricket. Let's get Ireland in tests. They'd be a bigger challenge then India. India were the no.1 test team for 22 months whereas England have only been no.1 for 4 months. The last time India won a test series in England was in 2007 whereas the last time England won any series in India was way back in 1985. Therefore India are a better test team than England. In addition to being a better team than England in test cricket, India are also a much better ODI team than England. Since England were beaten convincingly by Bangladesh and Ireland in last year's world cup and barely managed to win against Holland and as a result of NEVER winning anything in ODI cricket I propose England make way for an associate nation in the 2015 world cup.

I think you miss the point. India were a better test team! No one is denying that, but your 20 years of greatness revolves around the careers of three or four players, all of which + Khan are getting past their sell by date. Real cricket fans in England do not value the shorter form of the game, we may watch it for fun, but it is like another poster said, 'like 5 a side footbal compared to the full game'. India are no longer a 'better test team than England' or even Sri lanka, they are in severe decline and only living on past victories. Surely you can see that 4-0 in England, now what I expect to be 4-0 in Aus I am afraid that you and many Indian posters like you are in denial and far too attached to a one day win, that in the eyes of real cricket fans matters little. When England Tour India later this year, I expect to see a hard fought series only because of a large home advantage and even then I expect England to win it either 1-0 or 2-1 If to stop all you whingers we played India on a neutral venue to prove superiority, we would quite frankly slaughter you, until you stop looking at your navel and make changes, it will only get worse as sides like us, SA and a newly emerging Aus side get better and better
wobblydoggy Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 yeah' date=' history of crap one sided cricket. :giggle:[/quote'] It is true that through the 90's and 00's Aus were great and superior, but wins for us in 2005,2010, 2011 have changed that. The aberation of the 5-0 defeat of 2007 I think being more a case of absent players and terrible captaincy by Flintoff, than a true reflection of the cricketing strengths of the nations as a whole. With Vaughan out with injury and our bowling attack weakened, we were no match for a bouted up swangsong from the Aus greats. But that is not the case now, we have strength in depth in all departments except openers and most have been tried and tested. We will be a force to be reckoned with in the next ten years
Cricket Tragic Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Fair points, Wobbly. :nice: For once you're not taking the piss and I agree with most of what you've written.

special K Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 yeah' date=' history of crap one sided cricket. :giggle:[/quote'] Indai/Pakistan has always been a close series. 600 plays 550 bore draws.
wobblydoggy Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Indai/Pakistan has always been a close series. 600 plays 550 bore draws. That is the fault of the boards ordering the groundsmen to prepare pitches for their princes to bat on

I'm merely pointing out what both countries have achieved overall in world Cricket. The OP claims subcontinent teams shouldn't play test cricket because they're not good enough. If that is the case, England should have stopped playing ODI cricket way back because they have NEVER been good at it since its introduction. Yes India have been particularly terrible in Test Cricket overseas this year and have indeed hit an all-time low but this same team was ranked no.1 for nearly 2 years. England on the other hand have been ranked no.1 since October(?) which is about 3-4 months. Based on current form England are obviously the better team, however as of now India have still held that no.1 rank for a longer time than England in addition to being far more successful in ODI cricket. Overall India have been a far more successful team in Cricket than England even though England have played the game for a much longer time. Whether you watch ODI cricket or not and whether "real cricket fans" in your country consider ODI cricket important is irrelevant. At the end of the day ODI cricket is also Cricket and like I said the world cup is considered the most important event in Cricket and India have won it twice whereas England haven't. BTW who gave you the right to call yourself a "real cricket fan"? If you prefer Test Cricket over LOI that's your right but that doesn't make you anymore of a "real" cricket fan over someone like me who gives equal importance to all formats of the game. As for England touring India later this year I admit the series will be more competitive than when India toured England, however I expect India to win it. Only time will tell though, let's see what happens. I'm neither whinging about anything nor am I in denial mode. I just find British people very arrogant and irritating in general, and now that in Cricket ONE of their several useless teams is FINALLY doing reasonably well after a long hiatus in the 90's I see them gloating like they've dominated cricket for centuries. I find Indian supporters annoying too when they worship our team like gods but India have at least achieved a lot more success than England have in world Cricket. Until England manages to hold the no.1 test rank for a longer time than India has or manages to at least EQUAL India's world cup tally, England fans should stfu and accept the fact that India are better than them at their own game.

Because even the top players themselves recognise the Test game as the most purest form of the game, the most challenging and the most rewarding when you get it right. Test Cricket to 'Real Cricket Fans and Cricketers is it. Youngsters brought up on slogfests like 50 over cricket and T20 ( Even my own sons) fail to see the truth because you have to be more patient to watch Test cricket and have a better appreciation of the nuances of the Test game. JMHO

I think people find us arrogant because we speak our minds about our home as well as away sides. Indians are more reserved true, but it takes a lot to make a world
special K Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 Poor fella still doesn't get it. ODI cricket is joke cricket. The CWC barely gets a mention over here. The matches all get televised but nobody cares less. The ashes is right up there with the football world cup. Only small cricket countries like Sri Lanka and India care about ODI cricket. Australai has won it 4 times and their fans care more about the ashes. So it isn't sour grapes with them. Let me guess, their excuse is they've won it too much so don't care.:punter:

The CWC is riight up there with the second coming of jesus. Only countries where cricket is a small part time sport like England and Oz care about Test cricket. It shows that you are very young with little or no appreciation of the game as a whole. I suggest you get some years in before you start voicing such ridiculous statements out of bitterness. What you are really saying is that you are too impatient to watch or learn test cricket. Maybe you should stick to wanking rather than marriage as that is similarly difficult

It's obvious they wouldn't because they simply aren't good at it and will probably never be so. What matters is that the governing body of Cricket considers the world cup to be the sport's more important trophy. Like I've pointed out several times India have also held the no.1 rank in Test Cricket for a longer time than England have as of now in addition to being light years ahead of England in ODI Cricket.
