Russian is becoming the fastest growing Muslim state.. I could not comment as to whether they would help India but i don't think they would help Pakistan. While Putin is alive he will always have some power and influence in Russian politics and he has a great disregard for Pakistan due to their links with the Taliban. On a side-note, Russia has really bad problems with Neo-Nazism so if a Muslim minority in Russia becomes significant it could lead to some problems (hopefully Russia sorts out its neo-nazi problem sooner rather than later).

That is what is getting me worried because the poverty level in Russia is quiet high..and people in Russia are converting to muslim at a rapid rate for some monetary gains... I do agree with you on Putin if anyone can clean the house it is him..

Russia is a much poorer and not as powerful form of the Soviets. Forget about 10 years down the line, Russian won't be able to help us like 1971 even if something happens tomorrow. Priorities change, we have moved on after that..they have moved on too.

The only question would be whether China would offer them significant help.

Chehcnya has caused the Kremlin too many problems and is still an issue they have not sorted.

Why not have it the other way round? Why shouldn't Russia be thinking about needing India as an ally? If we keep depending on others all the time, we will never be the great nation we want to be.
