CG Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 regarding field setting -- isnt the bowler and captain both equally responsible...or is everyone saying Dhoni sets field against the wish of bowlers? or against the planning done before the start? Yes it is,But captain is the supreme so it should be.
vamos_rafa Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 1. Yes umesh did not do well in odis in zimbabwe but even a fool would pick him up ahead of that left armer who did not even have any international experience in a test. 2.P.k has been horrible in odis for 2 years ,yet he seems to be instant selection in odis. 3.Shewag has guts it out abroad many times ,ex-adelaide,mcg,eng, 4.Regarding defensive field for wi ,Most of them did not last long and those who did the field went back as soon as a boundary was hit. 4.And you cannot have a guy who goes on saying i have technical problems and i cant score runs abroad, what the hell are u not working on your technique rather than saying it at press conference. Why do you think so that even a fool would pick Umesh ahead of that trundler. In hindsight, atleast we knew by then thatt Umesh was not upto the mark so he gave a chance to the other trundler. Also, we already had 2 right armers in the team and we needed someone to replace Zak. We were talking of test matches and now you bring up PK's performances in ODIs. You want him to be replaced as the test kaptaan so why the spout of ODI team selcetions?? Sehwag's gutsing out abroad is limited to those 3 innings only. You can add the bloemfontaine inning as well. I can easily list down atleast 10 innings in the last 4 abroad series where MSD has actaully made a very good contribution but I know I would be scoffed at. But, do you really consider we should have an opening batsman who does not want to take any kind of a responsibiity? He's modest enough to admit that, although the admission is not required in the public. And his statements are still better than the one'e where people say that last time when Oz toured India, they were also beaten 2-0.
Needforspeed Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Most of the time you cannot set a field for the way all the Indian bowlers, except Zaheer were spraying all over the place. When Yadav bowled with full rhythm, the field setting worked. If Dhoni's field setting was the problem, how come we didn't see any improvement in Adelaide. The only reason we escaped the innings defeat was because the Aussies did not enforce the follow-on.
BeautifulGame Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 3.Shewag has guts it out abroad many times ,ex-adelaide,mcg,eng, That was four years back. And Dhoni has guts it out abroad as many times as Sehwag. But U dont select team based on what players did 4 years ago. Sehwag is the 2nd worst International cricket away from Sub continent in last 4 years not just Indian players. This includes wicket keepers. This isnt about fighting it out Sehwag is arguably the worst international cricketer away from Sub continent in last 4 years.

Exactly. Sehwag's fans just list out thsoe 2-3 innings and think that he has set the world on fire. He has performed poorly for long now outside SC

And his statements are still better than the one'e where people say that last time when Oz toured India, they were also beaten 2-0. 1.Because you take talent, potential, even international experience yadav is miles ahead of that guy,Just because you do not have a left armer you do not pick any no hoper and that is not the only selection blunder he has done,Yes you make mistakes but not learning is what dhoni is guilty off ,Playing nehra when he half fit in Sa and more. 2.I brought it off to put light on to how he has different standards and rules for his friends they can abuse and not perform . 3.Shewag is an opener ,You can check in the series he has failed in sa and aus what was the averages of other openers in the same series and he has played many good knocks abroad on helpful tracks, yes recently he has not done well but dhoni has no hope.Yes dhoni has odd knocks in england but it was when he was swinging with the tail and field was set back,in crunch moments when he had support a top order batsman he failed. 4.I see the statement as more giving excuse .

Shewag atleast kept a ring field till they were 200-3,dhoni would have on such a flat pitch have 3 fielder back as soon as they scored 50.
BeautifulGame Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Sehwag is the 2nd worst International player(10 matches minimum) in the last 3 years in matches played away from sub continent. Every other international player from every other country who has played 10 matches has performed better than Sehwag in last 3 years away from subcontinent. So this will This will naturally include openers form other countries who have been given a decent run. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?batting_positionmax1=7;batting_positionval1=batting_position;class=1;continent=1;continent=3;continent=4;continent=5;filter=advanced;opposition=1;opposition=2;opposition=3;opposition=4;opposition=5;opposition=7;orderby=batting_average;orderbyad=reverse;qualmin1=10;qualval1=matches;spanmin1=15+Mar+2008;spanval1=span;template=results;type=batting Dhoni averages 10 more runs per inngs and scored more 50s than Sehwag in last 3 years away from sub continent. Not that Dhoni has played greatly but it just how pathetic Sehwag has performed as an opener in last 3 years.
Needforspeed Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Shewag atleast kept a ring field till they were 200-3' date='dhoni would have on such a flat pitch have 3 fielder back as soon as they scored 50.[/quote'] Agreed. But my point is what was the net result? Australia still ended up with 604/7. I am not defending Dhoni's field placing, but at the end of the day, getting wickets will depend on the quality of the bowling.
BeautifulGame Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 :hysterical::hysterical: shewag is an opener for gods sake' date='yes he has failed for last few years but has performed in australia and sa before.[/quote'] So now if u are opener u can be shite :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:
CG Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 So now if u are opener u can be shite :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Comparing his batting to dhoni is shite.

BeautifulGame Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Comparing his batting to dhoni is shite. No it isnt.It just proves how shite Sehwag has been in last 3 years. Tell me a single good opener who averages worse than the WK of his team? Or why the 2nd worst batsman in international cricket (away from Sub continent) deserves to be in the team as opener?
saneindian Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Why would you run down Sehwag to prove MSD is better or vice versa? Both play for India, both have done well for the country and both are going through a rough period right now. This phase will pass and both of them will be crucial in helping us get over this phase.

Or why the 2nd worst batsman in international cricket away from Sub continent deserves to be in the team? Because he averages 70 at home.I had earlier made this thread about him a year back saying he has got to much freedom and playing with out responsibility ,many guys said did not agree now everybody is after him,But i saw him trying to defend in perth and adelaide first innings and he would not last then he swung in 2nd ininnings and got some runs,

Its time we replace Sehwag with an opener who has better technique.
BeautifulGame Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Because he averages 70 at home. Welll then no need to drop Dhoni as captain since has great record as captain in India. I had earlier made this thread about him a year back saying he has got to much freedom and playing with out responsibility ,many guys said did not agree now everybody is after him,But i saw him trying to defend in perth and adelaide first innings and he would not last then he swung in 2nd ininnings and got some runs, He simply doesnt have the technique for an opener and never had.Its time he dropped down to middle order in place of Sachin. If not then he doesnt have a place in the team
