ShebbySB Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Openers Here are some contenders:-Mukund,Vijay(Both have already played for India & both needs to work on their technique if they want to step up their game), Tanmay Srivastav,Ajinkya Rahane(He's in the squad but hasn't got any chances yet)..............anyone else with sound technique & good temperement? Middle Order We got quite a few talents for middle order batting.Kohli has cemented his place at no.6 & Sachin will play for couple of more years at no.4 so no.3 & no.5 these 2 spots are open.Pujara is the best bet for the no.3 spot while Rohit can replace VVS at no.5,we've also got Robin Bist,Mandeep Singh,Manoj Tiwary,Suryakumar Yadav & a hungry Raina who needs to work on his technique of playing short-pitched bowling,Manish Pandey, Rayudu fighting for middle order spots in the test team. Keeper Contenders are:-1)Saha,2)Uday Kaul,3)Dinesh Karthik(Has already played test & dropped but not for good),4)CM Gautam,5)Pinal Shah,6)Ajay Ratra,can he make a comeback? All Rounder Will we ever have an all-rounder of test class?Only Irfan has showed some glimpses of being one.We've couple of spin bowling all-rounder in Jadeja & Ashwin.Only time will tell if they can provide India with a 5th bowling option. By the way has anyone seen any player on the domestic circuit half-decent at test level? Spinners Ashwin & Ojha are our top 2 spinners right now.Then we've Rahul Sharma, Iqbal Abdulla,Piyush Chawla(If he can be more consistent).Mishra & Bhajji are also there but they're dropped for good & won't be considered again unless they're picking lots of wickets in the FC matches.

Needforspeed Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Maybe add Manish Pandey and even Ravindra Jadeja. Otherwise the above list seems fine. We should have been having 10-12 good bats with 27 FC teams. Maybe there are some guys in the U-19 now, who can come up in the next 2 years.

Rohit Motwani (Mumbai), Age 21, FC avg - 41.28 3. W.Saha, Age 27, FC avg -40.48 4. Parthiv Patel, Age 26, FC avg -FC avg - 40.71 5. Dinesh Kartik, Age 26, FC avg -39.21 6. Gautam CK, Age 25, FC avg -38.97 7. Naman Ojha, Age 28, FC avg -38.46 Of the lot I feel Uday Kaul and Rohit Motwani are the most promising and are genuine batting talents. Rohit is only 21 and looks like a good prospect

Mate Jadeja is in the all-rounder forum.U can check that forum also.

Needforspeed Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 There really is a shortage of genuine all rounders, Maybe Ravindra Jadeja and Irfan Pathan. But Irfan's batting is now crap. There are a few bits and pieces players like Stuart Binny, but he is not international class and his age (nearly 28) is against him. Abhishek Nayar was a prospect a few years back, but at 28, I think he has missed the bus. Not too many options really.

ShebbySB Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 Future test prospects:-Seamers Zak is still our top dog.We've unearthed 2 geniune quicks in Umesh & Aaron. Ishant has pace,height but he has not improved a bit & has disappointed. Praveen Kumar is a skillful bowler but lacks pace.Zak will probably retire within 1-2 years.We need 6-7 quality seamers.There are some future prospects like Abu Nechim,Dinda,Gony,Tyagi while rookies like Shami Ahmed,Anwar Ahmed, Rahul Shukla,Pawan Suyal has impressed lot of people with their pace. Personally I think bowlers who can bowl 85mph+ should only be selected unless they are as good as Zak.I also hope Sreesanth & Ishant improves their game coz they've the talent but hasn't done enough good for their reputation.
