Test cricket batting analysis

Lets see if we understand what our major issue is in the batting side especially in the non-subcontinent conditions. If you see in the table above, we have our top 3 giving us so much stability. I think this was the analysis done by Aussies on our team. It tells you the weak-link in our batting line up. That being, Sehwag. THis guy does not have ability to stay on the pitch for more than 40 odd balls. That is like 7 overs. As a test opener you need a guy who can get the shine of the new ball away before handing over the proceedings to the middle order. Look at RD now. Despite pathetic performance in this series, he still averages of 114 balls per innings. That means when he comes out to play, opposition knows that they will have to work their *****es off and bowl 20 overs to him before he gets out. Thats a huge price on his wicket. Same thing with SRT. With the addition of GG, who has a very decent 91 BPI average, we were doing great until sehwag was playing good innings. But with RD in poor form, Sehwag not lasting even 40 ball in this entire series, we were almost every time exposing our middle order in the first 10 overs. The same thing goes for Dhoni, this guy cannot last more than 40 odd balls in the middle. He has to go. He at least need to be in 65-70 range. So moving Sehwag down the order will ensure that he last long and having a guy in place of Dhoni who can at least face 70 balls is crucial for our success. We cannot find a replacement for RD or SRT. RD faces 114 balls for his 53 runs and SRT faces 86 balls for his 56 runs. With these averages our ability to play beyond 80 overs is significantly reduced. If top 5 batsmen cannot play beyond 80 overs meaning less than 300 score. Very simple calculation, if we lose all our top 6 in 75+ overs, our remaining batsmen cannot play long after that because with the new ball they wont survive long. With this score we can never dream of winning test matches. Primary reason could be bowling but it is totally a different equation as far as Team india is concerned. Will talk that later. PLEASE ffs, dont bring VS vs RD vs SRT crap in this thread. We will talk test cricket only.

Here are some more interesting figures. Since 2010, outside of subcontinent, our opening partnership only averages 25. All those heros who are asking the senior trios to retire should really talk something constructive. Lets me add it here. In last 28 innings, outside of subcontinent, our opening partnership was 21 In last 18 innings with Sehwag as an opener , outside of subcontinent, our opening partnership was 25 In the 19 innings, at home, which sehwag played all, our avg opening partnership was 55 (We won many test matches at home) From 2007 to 2010, outside of subcontinent, games that we won, avg opening partnerships were- Jaffy-KKD 54 GG_VS 40 Jaffy_VS 51 GG_RD 39* IPK_VS 18 That tells the story to me. I hope we see the things in perspective. Everything is affected after opening partnership. We win because 3, 4 & 5 could score heavily after first 15-20 overs have been played out. Average of 25 will never get you results. That too if these 25 runs are scored quickly, like in 4-5 overs (the way Viru does), then the ball is very new for 3 or 4 down.
