But what sort of guidance can seniors provide when they themselves are failing along with the youngsters? IMO it will send a negative message to youngsters, i.e. it's ok to fail and still remain in the team. I think we need to do the same thing Aus did in mid 80s when they were bottom of the bareel. They identified a core group of youngsters and stuck with them under Border. There was only one senior in that team (Border) and he used to perform. We need to do the same and stickt with Gambhir and Sehwag as seniors. That should be it. I mean what sort of guidance can SRT provide that can't be done by Sehwag, Gambhir, Dhoni etc.? And if SRT still wants to impart wisdom to youngsters he can do so in domestic cricket and IPL. Nobody is stopping him from doing so but I am sorry to say he can't have an automatic spot in the team solely in the name of "guidance" or "transition".

Drop Laxman and Dravid as well and back Pujara, Rahane, Rohit along with Kohli. I would give a few more chances to Gambhir and Sehwag, especially Gambhir, but if they continue to struggle replace them with Mukund. Tendulkar may not have been the worst performing player but he didn't do much and generally you don't get much leeway if you are 39.

The reason I want to give Sehwag more leeway is the sort of game-changer he is. His ability to score quickly and rattle opposing bowlers was one of the reasons we reached the pinnacle in Tests. Mukund should be on the standby and as for Dhoni IMO he should give up Tests. Dhoni;s much more valuable to us in shorter formats and he's unlikely to play for long if he continues playing all 3 formats while keeping wkts.

:hysterical::hysterical: This post is hilarious for two reasons: 1. It comes across as a serious post. 2. It comes across from someone who works at the modern day journalistic beacon of cricket. How did experience help in the 0-8 scoreline? What guidance did these 'seniors' impart to the youngsters over the 0-8 scoreline? And no, you might belong to this collective herd mentality of "We" but in the circumstance that we do lose 0-8 with the youngsters speaking for myself I won't be complaining or clamoring about bringing the "seniors" back.

TBH, I look at the technical side of things, so my views have nothing to do with the sacrosanct ideology spread here :winky: As for the rest of the post, it was a collective failure. Al I am trying to say is to send out these seniors one by one. Sending all of them at one go might not be the best possible solution as per me. This whole business of Sehwa being the game changer has been taken a bit too far. He is the one who is the most susceptible to fast/swing bowling. Barring a few inings here and there, and that too long back, he has generally failed to give us that impetus outside SC. Play him as much as you like in SC, but he should not be there in the test team outside SC.

Sehwag? Really? Do you think he can be given any more chances in tests outside India? I think of all the strulling players that we have, he has looked the most clueless. And what can he guide the youngsters with? Poor technique ?
