Do you guys think this will be a good deterrent for these animals who rape women? Do you agree with this? Or do you think it won't change anything? I for one agree with the courts decision, the crime was a savage attack on a woman and the two men showed no remorse while they were doing it. How do you guys feel? Law/humanity can not support torturing (for which they are being sentenced) - it would be hypocritical. But then keeping them alive and paying for their food/accommodation is also not reasonable.

Actually in most countries, the death penalty costs more than life-imprisonment. It will take decades for the person to be actually killed and any prisoner on death row is given the highest level of security and comfort. All in all, the cost is more than life-imprisonment Also, barbaric punishmnets and death-penalties are never deterrances. A criminal doesnt expect himself to get caught when he commits a crime, so he never things about punishment. A death penalty is more a way of extracting revenge than justice IMO

I like that part of US system, where they add up multiple offenses and come up with something like 100-200 years of imprisonment.

Even in the US, after the highest court has confirmed death, it takes years for the person to actually die. There is also a waiting list for years. Till then the person is placed on death row and put in maximum security prisons. They are aslo often transported between different prisons

ViruRulez Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 rape+murder case is definitely suitable for death penalty .. no second thoughts about it ... appropriate judgment ... if leniency is adopted in such cases then in the future rapists would kill the girl too at the same time to eliminate proof .. if possible, death penalty should also be brought in case of rape but it must be foolproof and not a case of consensual sex accused of rape .. so, everything needs to be kept in mind And finally I have always said and still think that p0rn, prostitution etc. must be legalized in the nation to reduce all this. On one hand, there is an overdose of sex on TV and movies but there is no legal provisions for the outlet of sexual energy which often is the reason for such crimes especially by very young guys .. legalization of prostitution etc. with proper check of STD etc. as in western country would help a long way in reducing the no of rape cases.

ViruRulez Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 In fact' date=' if you make it death penalty for rape - it might further motivate future rapists to eliminate the evidence.[/quote'] that is why I am in two minds over the death penalty for rape ... but if not death penalty then something harsh such as 20 year prison term should be there for rape .. but it should be verified rape and I am not sure how that can be concluded .. in the modern era, there would be more cases of false rape accusations especially with girls becoming more bold and some set of girls doing anything for fame and money .. so, need to make the laws foolproof too .. it is a difficult choice and hopefully some right way would be devised to make the punishment more harsh but to make the accusations authentic too .. it is a tricky call to be honest but something needs to be done in the long run
