Can we learn from past mistakes?

Recommended Posts

The last time Karthik and Jaffer produced a vital partnership abroad was in Cape Town. A positive, intelligent start with both grit and aggression saw us get 153 for the first wicket, with the series on the line. A phenomenal display of gutlessness, fear and lack of initiative saw us throw the game away. Our lower order crumbled in the first innings, and in the second, we refused to push on for a lead. In what should have been the session to pump up a lead, Dravid and Tendulkar led the rot with turgid play, seeing us lose wickets and add only 38 runs. No surprise, we lost that. Deservingly so. Let's see if this time anyone can learn from the mistakes. Situation's similar: series on the line, great opening partnership of 147 against some good bowling. Match is there to be won. Hopefully Dravid, Ganguly, VVS and Tendulkar will remember the inertia that lost us the Cape Town test and a potential series win. And hopefully they can follow the openers' example with the bat here and produce something of relevance to try and turn this into a win. Else it could be Newlands all over again.
