In india where no sport was good enough to be a career (unless you perform in international level), this is a big game changer. Even in the short term, players who will not have a long career with India, can now earn a career and some more. It also gives them an international platform to perform against international player. Now some might say that IPL doesnt throw out international cricketers. Well, ofcource, lit hasnt. There are at any time, only a couple of dozen international caliber cricketers that represent the country and we have already chosen most of them long before IPL and a lot of players who made it to the team after IPL, were already in the fringe. IPL performances alone and esp. 1 season, does not tell the caliber of a player as its bloody T20, a slog fest. Its too short of a time period for the IPL to churn out different cricketers that what we are used to. The sides are weakened since pune inclusion. This is obviously true cos its basic statistics. If we had just 6 sides, we would get a higher quality league. Now 4 sides would be even better. It doesnt matter how many sides are there as long as the quality is there. Is it there?I think so. Dont blame poor squad selection on the lack of quality players. This is not international cricket, so dont expect international quality cricket. When players like Tyagi, Mukund cannot get a single game, you can say that some teams are selected better than others. CSK and MI are so good because of its domestic players. RR went far in a couple of IPL's, by getting good performances from domestic players. Others could do that too. I have a feeling that i have rambled a bit and some points are not explained well. But its late and i am tired.
Ultimate_Game Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Nope. The best part about the IPL is to follow Indian youngsters and upcoming players. If we allow too many foreign players we will go the English football team way where mercenaries earn top dollars and the national team is a joke.

bulbul Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 YES this year IPL completes 5 years and the IPL admins (not the mascots here) should decide the future..enough of this developing local talent et..let us make the tourney more competetive..whoever have talent will survive.. also its not like only the 'Best' Indian players got opportunity and money eventually this quota system has to go

Increasing the number of foreigners means the first players to get the axe are the unproven youngsters. They will then be under pressure every time they do get a whatever limited opportunity that comes their way.
Swing_n_Speed Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Nopes. The IPL is just bout 5 yrs old and has not yet created brand loyalty. You take out the domestic players and u may take out brand loyalty. Take out the domestic fans and u won't have an IPL. I say keep it the way it is for now.

The existing 7/4 has made for some very boring teams or weak teams....not the mention that domestic guys havent improved & on the contrary....their quaility seems to go down...on the knowledge that the teams has to pay big dollars because they need to fill 7 slots with domestic players. Reducing 1 spot will mean that useless 9 players (1 from each team) has to up their standard to get in or lose out.

No one is going to watch IPL except in mumbai and Chenai if they have all the dominat players and other teams are sub par!

You make it sound like there is absolute no surprises in IPL. And remember Mumbai have yet to win IPL so hard to say they are a dominate team. If you want to argue, it could be regulations as with retention of 4 players, only MI and CSK have benefited. Their should be tighter control and equality over all the IPL teams but how can expect that when CSK owner is BCCI chairman

Lets the teams buy whoever they want with in a set amount. Some teams will be dumb enough to blow all the money on two players when you need a XI :giggle:
