dibyabttb Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Even though the TV ratings of the IPL 2012 have dropped drastically, Sahara owned Pune Warriors seems to be the most popular team in this season of IPL with maximum cricket fans following the team's matches both in the stadium and on the TV. The youngest team in the IPL, Pune has topped the popularity charts outpacing teams like Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi. In addition to Pune's improved performance in the current season, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly's charisma is also believed to be behind the team's newfound popularity. According to the viewership data released by TAM Sports, the average rating for the first 27 matches of the fifth season of IPL stands at 3.53, lower than IPL 4′s average of 3.88 and lowest among all seasons of IPL. Out of these 27 matches, only 10 matches have received rating of more than 4. Pune Warriors India has been involved in these matches (with TV rating 4+) most of the time. According to an analysis by e4m, a marketing, advertising and media portal, it is the 'Dada Factor' which is working in favor of the Pune based IPL team. Not just on the TV, the stadiums hosting Pune Warriors matches also get packed and at home the team enjoys unbelievable crowd support. How can a team which finished ninth among 10 teams in the first season, garner such a huge support base in just one year? Quite obviously, the team's improved performance in IPL 2012 has won it a large number of new supporters. The team has already beaten mighty teams like Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi so far. The team looks stronger with most of its players in form. For a team which had to lose its captain Yuvraj Singh (for cancer treatment) and didn't sit in the IPL players auction (because of a rift with BCCI) hence losing a chance to buy some exciting new talents, the journey so far in IPL 5 has been like a dream and the cricket fans across India seem to have appreciated the efforts put by the team. But the biggest factor that has contributed to the team's fan base is the presence of iconic cricketer Sourav Ganguly in the team. A national icon, Sourav's fans are in every city in India and they are keenly following the progress of their beloved Dada's team in the tournament. Dada's aggressive captaincy has provided a new lease of life to the Pune Warriors. Everyone is eager to see how Dada answers to the snub he received last year when no IPL team bought him at players auction. Almost 3 months away from his 40th birthday, Sourav has done a great job so far in inspiring his team to win. Source* *Disclosures Apply

ViruRulez Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 There are several reasons for it. Rest of India is bored with IPL overdiet. But for Puneites it would be new feeling and this is like their first IPL season. Moreover, they have more reason to be proud as a quality stadium is also owned by the franchisee Sahara in a place where stadiums were not there in the past. I am not sure about ticket prices but maybe they have been kept somewhat low too. And Subroto brings along cinestars due to good links in the industry. Also good collection of beautiful girls in most matches. Then you have Dada whom many respect too. In a way, some Bengali support would also land there. Some Marathis would also support Pune. Those who are bored with Mumbai's chokes in the last few IPLs will also be supportive. And Pune are performing better than Mumbai being a new team. Sachin is not active in MI either. So, more reason for Maharastrians to support Pune instead of Mumbai. I doubt DD and KKR might have also become more popular than last year after their performance this year till now.
