Instead making contract with players seems more ligit as most other francises do worldwide. That way these francises will have fair compition of having 'true performers' to cap in terms of money and players' willingness to play for specific team or regional representation will become matter. Francises will have to make a balace in grab in top Proffesionals first then oblize spectator's/fanz view to acknowledge locals as well to make revenue from tickets. Open/re-auctions again and again will definitly wont make francises to think about fans much, but more about short time investment over buying out best players in few sides who wants to invest more, eventually making the show quality down.

I see what you mean regarding being unable to bid more if you don't have cap money, but cap is enforced in other pro leagues which don't have auctions. It is essentially illegal for them to cross the cap and if they do without informing the league, it is essentially a breach of their own contract with the league.

But we shouldnt force players in a certain team if they are not happy with the franchise, salary or simply being left out. All players who wants to leave should be put on a open bidding list. So should the players that the franchises dont want. Salary cap is well and good when the tournament started but its not needed anymore fully. Franchise and players could could talk among themselves and if either one is not happy, let them enter the list. But for every person the franchise retains, the salary for the auction decreases, just like last time. This means that a team that retains 10 or more players, do not have the purse to go after good players. Instead of an auction, let franchises talk to the players on the list so players know exactly what they are getting into and have a choice of being part of a franchise.

But like I said, I am pretty sure Ambani can get away paying millions into Pollard's offshore bank but officially state Pollard's salary is only $100,000, hence giving Mumbai more leg room with the salary cap. But if Pollard was put up in Auction, other IPL teams would drive up his price (eating into the salary cap). If no-one bids for Pollard and Mumbai get him for say base price, then the whole IPL is corrupt becoz that means Mumbai has paid off BCCI or other IPL teams not to bid for Pollard. Still believe Lalit Modi and his team have come up with the best method than any other professional leagues in making sure everyone gets a fair chance for access to talent. One only has look at the incredible imbalances in European football leagues in terms of wealth and results are quite evident. In Spain, does anyone exist outside Real Madrid or Barca?

Good post, in fact the only good one favoring auctions I have read on this site. My main issue with the auction is that it doesn't give time for the teams to act in a sane manner. Emotional aspects take over when they are bidding over each other. There has to be something wrong with Jadeja going for 2 mill amd Murali for 200k.

Same with Levi, Samuels etc.[/quote'] I can see Jadeja getting paid more than Murali for one of the many suggested reasons, but can't fathom a 10x multiplier if the followed process was sane. For example if Murali had the right to sign with any team and negotiate contracts, he could have come up with more than 200k, IMO. Similarly if Jadeja had done the same, he wouldn't be anywhere close to 2 mill.
