These factors impelled some of the irresponsible and hot–headed Hindu elements to take to violence. From 8th January 1993 at least there is no doubt that the Shiv Sena and Shiv Sainiks took the lead in organizing attacks on Muslims and their properties under the guidance of several leaders of the Shiv Sena from the level of Shakha Pramukh to the Shiv Sena Pramukh Bal Thackeray who, like a veteran General, commanded his loyal Shiv Sainiks to retaliate by organised attacks against Muslims. The communal violence and rioting triggered off by the Shiv Sena was hijacked by local criminal elements who saw in it an opportunity to make quick gains. Anyway, If i recollect correctly, after Radhabai Chawl incident in Jogeshwari-- there were strong news of some Muslim gangs receiving consignments of arms from Dawood's associates. this created a real panic among Hindu people in Muslim majority areas....if you can recollect there was a news of Madhukar Sarpotdar, a Shivsena leader having arranged weapons -- actually this News was purposefully spread to deter Muslim gangs, beacuse Shivsena was concerned that if Muslims were not made aware that Shiv-sainiks too possessed weapons-- they might resort to mass scale violence where Hindus are in minority. rest of report of looting, and vandalism by local gundas is correct....actually, you cannot blame Shivsena alone for this, when something like law and order goes out of control local gundas/petty criminal sieze that opportunity to make quick bucks. PS: The website from where this report we are reading looks like Anti-BJP website with some agenda. Out of thread for now.

Point 1 you shouldnt make carte blanche statements like "noone has seen bal thackeray do this"...Errr they have and there is an entire report based on it. If you want to conviniently ignore it thats another thing but dont bother making such lopsided comments too. Point 2 what is the role of such commissions? Like I have said why waste all of us our time, money and effort? xx

Muslim criminals have been named regarding what you are alleging. Please pay attention to the name Feroze Kokani. This is the same dreaded Dawood henchman that created rippled in Indian Underworld when he made the dreaded escape from JJ Hospital. So again your argument about Dawood's connection has been addressed, if not covered as much as you might have wanted. xxx

Little late in the day but apparently a Mumbai Court has ruled against the Shiv Sena leader Madhukar Sarpotdar convicting him to 1 year imprisonment. Honestly I find it too little and too late(almost 2 decades have passed) but hey better late than never. A special magistrate's court in Mumbai court has convicted senior Shiv Sena leader Madhukar Sarpotdar and two others in a 1993 Mumbai riots case. Magistrate RC Bapat Sarkar has convicted Sarpotdar along with two Shiv Sena activists -Ashok Shinde and Jaywant Parad - for making inflammatory speeches and causing enmity between religious groups during the riots. The biggest supplier of arms and ammunition to ROPers during riot was Dawood and his gang in Dongri area of Mumbai and yet noooo one cares to talk of him. Sarpotdar was merely acting in defence since that time Hindus were seriously outnumbered in terms of weapons.
