If BCB knew that there were going to be delays in payment, they should have set the proper expectations to the players telling them how much time it would take. Just giving them dates after dates and not following it up indicates an unprofessional attitude. agree with your opinion, at least you are not like those Pakis think that everything will go right from the first go. We are still a small country and our cricket is still not at the level of countries like Aus, Ind and England. And considering how corrupt things are in BD these are meant to be happen. It will take time to sort some problems. There were a lot of issues with BPL regarding qualification and ticket price as well. Too many hiccups :(( But the only thing that drives cricket in our nation is the passion for the game:hatsoff::hatsoff: Same can be said abt India, i mean to think abt how the fans wud still back the team after 8-0 whitewash, wherease teams like WI had performed so much betteer :hatsoff::hatsoff:

Before you go any further here's the difference. Indians back there team coz they actually have the talent and have shown so with their performances over the last 10 years or so. India are the World Champions, have won the T20 Cup, have been ranked no. 1 in Tests and before the last two test series were one of the top teams home & away since 2000. In nutshell, Indians deserve the bragging rights and confidence in their team.

:two_thumbs_up::two_thumbs_up: It was poor planning at its best. I know the bpl was quite good cricketwise, but the ticket pricing and match planning was poor imo. Dhaka crowd which already has the luxury to see so many intl games has been given 25 games, and srsly, how do u expect all these 25 games to be sold out? esp. when only a fraction of these matches are played by the home team. Also, too many neutral game and too small crowd base was a good reason for the stadiums looking so hollow. this also meant less income. Infact, by laws of the tournament Chittagong kings was supposed to go into the Semi-finals consideration of Head-to-head counts, but the no-one talked abt head-head count and all believed that NRR will brought into account. So the team, barisal burners who were expected to go into the SF by NRR, actually found themselves short. then to make things worse, the BPL governing body made a weird change that led to barisal getting out and chittagong not going through despite the fact that they shudve qualified by the laws. So basically, everything was poorly plan because they planned everything in short time. Also, the poor infrastrucuture is anther good reason for less cricket outside dhaka. but the good thing is that 2 new venues are now freed up :)

That was the point, i.e. being successful and performing over a period of time does buy you credit which Indian players had racked up but even they are not immune to continuous poor performance as Dravid's retirement and calls for Laxman's head has shown. This shows Indian fans are willing to give a little bit of leeway but are not deluded enough to carry the same team through no matter what forever.

Bangladesh's inaugural Twenty20 league was held in February and attracted a host of overseas players, including Australians, but at least 12 have not been paid their full dues, amounting to over US$600,000, FICA said. In addition, local Bangladeshi players have received, on average, less than 60 percent of their wages, with only eight paid what they are owed. FICA's Australian chief executive Tim May said that despite numerous assurances from the BPL, the Bangladesh Cricket Board and its president Mustafa Kamal, they had proven to be "broken promises and empty public pronouncements". "It is obvious that the BPL franchises and the BCB are either unable or unwilling to meet these financial obligations," he said in a statement. "FICA is left with no choice but to support the unpaid players in legal action against the franchises and BCB in Bangladesh." May said the credibility of the BPL and the BCB had been seriously damaged. "The process of the payment of players has deteriorated into a joke and the unprofessionalism of its handling is massively short of that required standard of an ICC full member country." He added that FICA, which was set up in 1998 to protect the interests of professional cricketers throughout the world, had recommended its members not play in the tournament again. "It goes without saying that FICA will be strongly recommending to all players, both in and outside Bangladesh, that they should not contemplate participating in this tournament in the coming years," he said. "They (BPL and BCB) have no one to blame but themselves."

Looks like BPL was "one and done" show. Folks at SLPL need to take a closer look at the fiasco as they may suffer the same fate. But SLPL is much better positioned due to Indian businesses owning the SLPL franchises.

I think SLPL, BPL, PCL, all have a slim chance of success as there is a saturation as far as the market for t20, and these leagues are not good enough with the money and foreign players limitations to succeed long term.

Bangladesh Cricket Board are too eager to jump the t20 bandwagon without the foundations. They really still need to develop their domestic first class circuit to able to produce "proper" cricketers who are able to cut it at Test level. Zimbabwe were minnows in the 90s but were still a worthy opposition with several class players because they had a strong first class competition. Look at Sri Lankan, a country of 20million people and yet can put out a decent team across all formats, because of very strong school cricket system supplanting their first class competition. Bangladesh going down the T20 route will only produce hacks who won't be able to cope it at Tests and ODI levels, and even T20 internationals.

Pont's allegation came two days after the six franchises missed the latest deadline - July 21 - to complete all payments

Pont also claimed some Dhaka Gladiators' players were willing to boycott their semi-final against Khulna Royal Bengals because they were not being paid. "The overseas players came to me and we had an emergency meeting where it was felt that boycotting the semi-final was a genuine option," he said. "So much money was missing that the guys didn't know what else they could try. But the players did not want to let the BPL down or the fans, which was the right thing to do

Instead of players and agents hiding behind FICA they should make a lot of noise publicly to put more pressure on BCB. What I personally think is that if there are many players who have not been paid, then they are staying quite because they are still thinking about the possibility of BPL2. They do not want to risk not being picked for BPL2 if it happens, hence why agents and players are not publicly coming forward apart from mushfiqul Rahim (to my knowledge). I see no other reason why they would stay quite. FICA is giving the impression there are a lot of players without payments but I don't think this is the case, but even so 1 player not being paid when promised is too many!

i hope you do realize the reason players hire agents and part of FICA is for this very reason, i.e. so that agents/FICA can get together on their behalf for any of the issues related to logistics, payements, security etc. :facepalm: Or do you expect all the players to stop playing and focusing on cricket, i.e. give up their livelihood, to legally pursue BCB. Maybe next you will be telling us why players/agents/FICA are hiding behind the lawyers and should come out and fight the lawsuit against BCB themselves :giggle:
