IOC cuts petrol price by 56 paise/litre effective midnight Petrol price was today cut by 56 paise per litre on the back of appreciation in rupee value against the US dollar. Petrol will cost Rs 67.90 per litre at Indian Oil Corp's ( IOC ) petrol pumps in Delhi with effect from midnight tonight as against Rs 68.46 a litre presently, the company announced today. Bharat Petroleum Corp ( BPCL ) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp ( HPCL ), the other two state fuel retailers, are expected to follow suit in cutting rates but price at their pumps would vary by one or two paise. "It has been decided to revise the petrol prices downwardby Rs 0.56 per litre (excluding state levies in Delhi) with effect from October 9," IOC said in a press statement here. Petrol in Mumbai will be cut by 71 paise to Rs 74.43 and by 70 paise in Kolkata to Rs 75.44 a litre. In Chennai, it will cost Rs 71.48 per litre as against Rs 72.19 presently. The government had in June 2010 deregulated petrol pricing, giving oil companies freedom to fix rates in line with cost. ^ Actually in the first stunt, the credit goes to the bikers completely. Ajay had to only keep from wetting his pants, which is still commendable. However, riding two horses together is tough, no matter how tame the horses are. Though, I am confident that the horses are tied together, it still is a very tough one. Standing on one horse is tough, two is definitely very difficult.

Petrol and diesel will be costlier in Delhi soon http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/news-by-industry/energy/oil-gas/petrol-and-diesel-will-be-costlier-in-delhi-soon/articleshow/16955800.cms

EW DELHI: Petrol will be costlier by 30 paise per litre and diesel by 18 paise as the oil ministry has agreed to raise dealers' commission, Federation of All India Petroleum Traders General Secretary Ajay Bansal said. After the hike, petrol will cost Rs 68.2 a litre and diesel Rs 47.13 per litre in Delhi. The oil ministry is yet to announce its decision of raising dealers' commission, which will raise pump prices of auto fuels. New rates would be applicable only after a formal announcement by the ministry. Dealers will continue pressure on the government for more commission, as the agreed hikes are not as per their expectation. The government has frozen their commission for more than 15 months. "We demanded the government to increase out commission on petrol by 67 paise and diesel by 42 paise because the oil ministry did not factor in fuel evaporation, free services to customers and and running pumps on gensets in case of electricity failure," Bansal said. Currently, dealers get a commission of Rs 1.5 per litre on petrol and Rs 91 paise on diesel. Bansal said the oil ministry has assured dealers that it would revise their commission after two months. "The ministry is moving cautiously because of cabinet reshuffle, which is expected on Sunday," one dealer said requesting anonymity.

I think EC will stay the decision, Govt knows this as well. During the Guj/HP elections they had rolled back the cap on subsidized cyllinders, EC stayed the decision. But obviously the message gets sent.
