Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson will retire at the end of the season after more than 26 years in charge, bringing to a close the most glittering managerial career in British football. The Premier League champions confirmed on Wednesday that Ferguson, 71, would step aside following United’s home game against West Bromwich Albion on May 19. “The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time,†Ferguson, who was in charge of 1,498 matches for the club, said on United’s website (www.manutd.com).

Good riddance......terrific manager but an utterly horrible person.
Typical haters upset the team they supported couldn't win anything for last 20 years cause of SAF :haha::--D But never thought this day would come, just like I think the day SRT retires will never come.

When did I say he is not talented? Besides, he is known to be a bully......his own ex-players like keane and stam have said so.......rather than calling me a hater.....maybe you should be a bit more objective...??

But he's not a bad person. And keane has respect for him, ignore the bs rumours, 95% of them are not true. His management style worked didn't it? Kept things under control and was ultra consistent especially in the last 20 years.

Quite an oxymoron. Bullies, in general, aren't nice people. He, by all accounts, is a pretty classless person and he hardly sets an example with his behaviour. It's just that he is supremely successful and influential, hence very few speak against him. And those who do, get hounded. I ,for one, have never heard him make a gracious statement when things haven't gone his way. Avoiding press conferences, banning select media outlets, all signs of a sore loser. The thing I hate about him the most, and Mourinho for that matter, is the pseudo-siege mentality that they both try and instill among their fans and players. However, his achievements, in English football atleast, are remarkable and he will go down as one of the game's greats.

Ferguson's character is moulded by the rough and tough nature of his early days in the shipyards of Glasgow. He isn't your typical pasta smoochers you get these days like Mancini or Gaurdiola.
