suraj Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 depends on how u look at it most ppl in India see & ignore these downtrodden communities on a daily basis while these "foreigners" end up giving more to the folks there in a week than they would get anything from locals, Indian govt or anyone in India If you were one of the folks there u don't mind this "disgusting" tourism trip of course sitting in an A/C house and typing because it hurts our Indian ego is much easier to do
FischerTal Posted June 3, 2013 Author Posted June 3, 2013 ^ what does this have to do with ego? there are many indian NGOs and social activists on the ground to help the poor. dont paint all indians with the same brush. and back to this issue, i have no problem with the help they provide to the poor, but they sound so cocky and uppity, especially the hotel part, where it says oh dont worry you dont have to live with those lepers , there will be 5 star hotels for you, so you can pose with those lepers and "garbage dumps" children to feel good about yourself during the day, but then live in your cosy hotel at night. there is a difference between these people and bill gates. Thousands of such trips occur in india annnually, has it helped the poor in India at all? NO

zumi Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 don't they have "be a illegal Mexican immigrant" tours too? and what about rich westerners going on sex tours to poor countries, what about hunting tourism (can't get more sadistic than that). there are disgusting tourism everywhere
