Sachin=GOD Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Sharad Pawar pads up for new innings with MCA polls MUMBAI: Union Agriculture Minister and Nationalist Congress Party boss Sharad Pawar has expressed his desire to run India's cricket establishment once again by contesting the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) elections to be held on August 23. If Pawar wins the MCA elections and becomes its president, he gets a ticket to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, one of the richest sports bodies in the world. He knows the enormous clout the BCCI wields, having been its president from 2005-2008, proceeding to become the International Cricket Council chief between 2010 and 2012. "Sharad Pawar has said that if he wins the MCA president's post, he will develop two new international cricket stadiums in the Mumbai Metropolitan Area: one somewhere in Kandivli and the other in Thane. We believe only Pawar can get all the clearances to build such projects," said an MCA member, requesting anonymity. Senior cricket commentator and author Sunandan Lele, speaking to ET on Pawar's plans, said, "It's the best way to be in the league of leaders like Narendra Modi, Arun Jaitley and Farooq Abdullah who are all presidents of various cricket bodies. It keeps you in the limelight and gives control of one of the richest sports bodies in the world." Most people associated with MCA didn't dwell on Pawar's prospects. Former Ranji cricketer Milind Rege refused to comment on the issue saying, "No I don't want to say anything." While aformer India captain simply hung up when asked about Pawar's plans to contest the MCA elections. MCA insiders said that Pawar is likely to be pitted against former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar, nicknamed Colonel, for the MCA president's post. Pawar has clarified that he will not contest the next LS elections, and also declared that his registered permanent residential address is now in Mumbai's upmarket Malabar Hill and not Baramati. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/sharad-pawar-pads-up-for-new-innings-with-mca-polls/articleshow/20980989.cms
Sachin=GOD Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 So he is giving the party to his nephew? he is saying that he will retire but if a scenario comes where he can have an important Ministry then I am sure he will decide to "serve" the people once again and take up the job. As for giving the party to his nephew - that guy is an impatient fool. Supriya Sule looks like a better alternative IMO.
G_B_ Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Sule has no personality of her own. Sharad is going to chose his son in law over his nephew. This time around the shiv sena and mns will get their hands dirty and do whats needed to thwart him from the post and back Vensarkar. Till now the sena kept away from the MCA cause Bal T was against meddling in cricket. However his son Uddhav has no such qualms. The city of Thane already has a stadium. (dadojee kondev stadium) It just needs proper renovation. Its just to host events and gatherings as of now.
Crookbond Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Vengsarkar ran Vilasrao Deshmukh to the wall, prior elections.
