Sachin=GOD Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 CBI likely to file closure report in Mulayam DA case in 10 days: sources New Delhi: Days after reports on a possible Samajwadi Party-Congress deal in the offing, sources now say that the Central Bureau of Investigation is likely to file a closure report in the disproprtionate assets case involving SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav in the next ten days. Sources had told CNN-IBN that Mulayam is likely to support the Food Security Bill in Parliament's Monsoon Session. The Samajwadi Party had earlier opposed the Bill and called it anti-farmer. As part of the deal, the Congress could help Mulayam in corruption cases against him. The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government needs Mulayam's support for other crucial bills like Pensions and Insurance Bill as well. But the challenge for Mulayam is to get a clean chit in the disproportionate assets case, which is going on for the last seven years. His review petition against an Election Commission order is also pending in the Supreme Court. Opposition parties had attacked the government over the CBI's decision to likely give a clear chit to Samajwadi Party supremo in a disproportionate asset case, alleging the agency was being used as a tool to further political interests. "We are not surprised that Mulayam Singh Yadav is getting a free clean chit form the CBI and he in turn has started singing a different song as far as the policies of the UPA II government are concerned," BJP leader Balibir Punj had said. The parties, including BJP, CPI, charged the Congress-led UPA government was behind the agency's reported decision to file the closure report in the DA case against Mulayam. "All parties that come to power have used the CBI for selfish reasons. Mulayam Singh himself has said in the past that the CBI is being used against him. Initially he was opposed to the food ordinance, but now he is saying that he will support it," CPI leader Atul Anjan had said. This is not the first time that the Congress has reached out to Mulayam by going soft on him. After the Left withdrew from the government over the Indo-US nuclear deal in 2008, the Congress was desperate for a bailout and it looked towards Mulayam who helped the UPA win the trust vote by a close margin of 275 to 256 votes. The CBI then withdrew its earlier application from the Supreme Court where it had claimed sufficient proof against Mulayam in the disproportionate assets case. The CBI argued it had made accounting mistakes. The case, however, is still pending with the Supreme Court.
