Attending Rahul Gandhi rallies to be counted as work under MNREGA In the wake of dwindling attendance at Rahul Gandhi rallies, the Ministry of Rural Development is considering tweaking the guidelines of the MNREGA scheme so that squatting for hours and suffering through Rahul Gandhi’s stultifying speeches counts as work under the ambitious poverty alleviation scheme. The policy change has been welcomed by some social sector activists, considering the hardships and high opportunity cost of listening to Rahul Gandhi. “Definitely, listening to his speeches should be included under approved works under NREGA such as digging and filling trenches. They are pointless, thankless, mind-numbing, and ultimately don’t produce any assets for the economy. So why not conflate attendance at Rahul baba’s rallies with the MNREGA program?” reasoned noted economist, John Breeze. Congress strategists clarified that labourers desperate enough to attend Rahul Gandhi’s rallies will be paid for all the hours of attendance even if Rahul baba turns up late by 3 hours and delivers a 7 minute speech. “We will not skimp on wages. Muster roll records will be meticulously maintained and people will be paid immediately after Rahul leaves,” promised a secretary in the Ministry. Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has dubbed the move a game changer and coined a new slogan to go with it: “Rahul Gandhi ko sunenge, MNREGA ki majdoori lenge, teen roti khayenge, aur panja par muhar lagayenge.” The Minister was quick to clarify that the scheme will be implemented only in rural areas. “Rahul has given up on urban India. In any case, for those urban youth desperate for work, there is always the eNREGA program,” he noted. However, many social activists have demanded a 1000% markup over the minimum wage rate considering the hazards involved. “There should be a premium for insult to communities, degeneration into bathos while referring to personal tragedies, and for theatrics like rolling up his sleeves,” demanded leading social worker, Harsh Mander. “Alternatively, they can pay an extra Rs. 100 per person every time Rahul says ‘bhaiyya’. That is also quite equitable.” http://www.theunrealtimes.com/2013/11/18/attending-rahul-gandhi-rallies-to-be-counted-as-work-under-mnrega/ :phehehe:

I think what's also interesting is how once dynasty is targeted, it becomes dirty politics, and a lot of sympathy and sorry words reactions comes in. Why is this dynasty so immune to criticism and are overly-protected. They can target opposition saying all nasty words which goes completely unquestioned. The media certainly plays a big part in this double standards. Not a good sign for a democracy wonder and no wonder that now Congress and certainly the dynasty talk about how it is their birth right to rule India.
