The Outsider
I wonder if the so-called statistician can provide us a decade-by-decade breakup of average runs/test scored in respective nations. There is no need to take pot shots at other posters. Stay clear of personal attacks Link to comment
Bongosamaj
There is no need to take pot shots at other posters. Stay clear of personal attacks Sorry if it came across that way. But rest assured, it wasnt categoric towards one poster- i think i have made it clear that i have a distaste for this so-called exercise of 'statistical facts' that cricket fans the world over indulge in. Primarily because, statistics as it is, is not a very precise field to base such precise conclusions upon, not to mention, there arn't any actual statisticians amongst us- just people who know a bit about BODMAS. We are all 'so-called' statisticians in this context, though your point is taken- i will not belabour it from now on. Link to comment

Bumper
Note to mods: Please amend this rule to make manali an exception. Salil he has already been exempted (banned :haha:). His new avtaar itduzz, itduzznt, parosi, padosee (god knows how many handles he created) were promptly put inplace as well. Finally seeing the guy's enthusiasm to post here, we've decided to let him post as itduzz:cantstop: Link to comment

However I don't think you understood what I mentioned in my previous post let us say if 250 runs is scored in 4 innings while playing in Aus or Eng, it will add up to 1000 runs. On the other hand if one team scores 500 and the other team scores around 200 in both innings while following on, it is still below 1000 runs. So you see the difference in scoring heavily while batting first in the subcontinent versus pitches in Aus and England. Link to comment
Bumper
Wow, great stats Bheem. Interesting to know that runs per wicket have rised sharply in this decade Link to comment

Bumper
Can you do this team wise ? Pick one team at a time & list how they scored in diff surfaces in a single decade. That will help us understand better if the numbers are fair for all countries. Link to comment

head coach
yes bumps ... in a short while ... but please dont make me do that for a gazillion decades .... :D but here are the stats on inngs Defeats(over all decades) for Head Coach .. if India had a vast number of 3 inngs Tests (as per your opinion) it would have featured towards the top end of this list but instead India is towards the other end. The table is sorted by last column. Country InngsDef Tests InngsDefPerTest Bangladesh 12 23 .52 Sri Lanka 22 84 .26 Zimbabwe 9 44 .20 England 82 440 .19 Australia 64 361 .18 South Africa 32 176 .18 New Zealand 27 161 .17 Pakistan 21 152 .14 India 29 207 .14 West Indies 17 196 .09 Considering most of the results in 80's and 90's in the subcontinent were draw it is no surprise but it will be interesting to see the actual results and if it is a win what was the margin. Often teams win by more number of wickets when runs to be scored is rather small. Good job with the stats! Link to comment

head coach
That is answered by the OversPerTest stat ... (Post# 29) No that only gives you how many overs were bowled each test doesnt give you the margin of victory in terms of number of wickets or runs. Maybe a lens might help? Link to comment

Bumper
Brilliant Boss, thank you. Stats clearly show why we are a better team away from home, this decade. FYI, the reason I asked you for this is to find out how countries have fared in India relative to their exploits in other countries. For eg: Your original stats seemed to indicate that Australia is the best place to bat. Its equally possible that those stats may be skewed because Aussies have one of the all time great batting lineups & play roughly 50% of their games at home. So by ranking each team's stats per decade in diff countries, we'll know if majority of the teams struggle in India. Link to comment
