In a decision without precedent, the BCCI has decided to not appoint a test captain for Pakistan's upcoming tour of India. Following a one hour meeting between the BCCI selection committee, a press statement was issued announcing that with the number of senior players in the team all providing valuable input and direction, no captain would be necessary. "Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid, Kumble and Laxman have all played major roles in the dressing room and on the field, and some of the younger players like Dhoni, Yuvraj, Zaheer and Harbhajan are also contributing great ideas and energy to the side. Therefore it has been decided that the Indian team will experiment by not having a captain in the coming test series. Instead BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah will act as a team manager for the Pakistan series and facilitate decision-making from the pavilion, allowing all the players to share on-field responsibility equally without placing the pressure of captaincy on any one player," said selector Sanjay Jagdale after the meeting this morning.
