Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Well then you cannot simply proclaim that "It evens out" or that its charming .... thats just factually incorrect .... Not quite. Just because i am not aware of a fact ,doesnt mean it doesnt exist at all. I have been following cricket for nearly 30 yrs and take it from me .... there have been very very few instances of us getting the rub of the green in such a brazen and ugly fashion as the aussies did in the last 2 series or the SAF series and so on ..... We are far too easy going and genial for our own good .... unfortunately that is never reciprocated on the field or off it for that matter .... this stupid fixation with charm of the game and all that bakwas -- which are mainly back doors for the old boys gang to hang on to their advantages -- need to stop. I am not the one for this whole conspiracy business. I am for everything that makes this game exciting to watch. My opinions are the one of a cricket lover, not neccessarily an Indian cricket fan. except that it was a miracle the odds of which happening are close to slim .... do you agree that most often than not a team getting around 450 in the 1st inngs goes on to win or at worse draw the game or not ? And how was that an example of us getting the rub of the green BTW which is what you were trying to imply wen u made that post about Gilly ? No that wasnt an example of rub of the green going our way. That was an example of how umpiring errors can lead to some superb cricket , which is what all of us want.
Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 If you think wrong decisions bring more excitement to the game, you have no hope. So I take it that you must be hoping for a lot of wrong decisions so that there is more excitement that game. :D No that wasnt exactly what i said. I said umpiring errors ---> adds to the uncertainty ----> adds to the excitement. :D And when i said umpiring errors , i mean the ones by chance and not by choice that BB is referring to.
Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Lets see the specifics MM ... what are these instances you are talking about ... Sachin caught behind off lee in the 4th onedayer. Murali Karthik caught behind of Johnson in the 7th one-dayers. actually the vote by boards last year was split even ... on umpiring .... if not for the stoopid PCB we would have already had umpiring referals ... remember ? Could you please point to the source on the net ? And i say again , if referring decisions to T.V was such a great idea after all , why hasnt any player worth his salt ( past, present) come out in open support of it ?
Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 and if you want instances of players complaining about bad umpiring look no further than Ganguly filing a "official" complaint against Bucknor ... and Dalmiya taking on the haramis in SAF circa 2001 .... cant get any more official than that .. BTW what happened to the complaint by Gangs ? Is it me or does anybody notice the blatant dictatorial and non-chalant attitude adopted by ICC ? Is this how things are supposed to work ? Dont we deserve an answer ? Its not complaints about bad umpiring that i am after. I want one , just one past/present great , coming out and saying - " We dont need umpires, technolofy can do the job" Can you gimme that ?
castled Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 That was an example of how umpiring errors can lead to some superb cricket , which is what all of us want. What about this example then: We now only remember the Sydney test as a drawn test. If there were no umpiring errors in that match, would we not be saying what a superb match it was, what a series winning double century by SRT, and what a great Indian series victory in Australia? Is this not the opposite of your example? A case of umpiring errors robbing fans of a superb match? (Your claim of remembering the 2001 as great because of umpiring error and my claim of Sydney test not being remembered as great because of the umpiring errors) Some umpiring errors may lead to a superb cricket and on the same note some may rob fans of some superb cricket. Cricket will still be as exciting without the umpiring errors and less frustration for everyone. Its a matter of opinion if you feel it adds to excitement, but if you say it leads to superb cricket, you are wrong as shown in the above example!
Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Gag orders from ICC No , i am not looking for players criticizing umpires. I am looking for players saying - " We dont need umpires. Please get in technology"
Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 What about this example then: We now only remember the Sydney test as a drawn test. Is this not the opposite of your example? A case of umpiring errors robbing fans of a superb match? (Your claim of remembering the 2001 as great because of umpiring error and my claim of Sydney test not being remembered as great because of the umpiring errors)[/quote'] Thats precisely what i am saying. It works both ways. That is what makes it uncertain/exciting. Some umpiring errors may lead to a superb cricket and on the same note some may rob fans of some superb cricket. Cricket will still be as exciting without the umpiring errors and less frustration for everyone. Its a matter of opinion if you feel it adds to excitement, but if you say it leads to superb cricket, you are wrong as shown in the above example! My saying " it leads to superb cricket" is not a rule i am proclaiming. Its more of an example to show what i want to highlight.
Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 And I can show you matches which were quite exciting without any help from umpires ..... and most importantly there is no bickering from fans and media in the aftermath. Well, i wont bicker with any umpiring error ,as long as i know that it wasnt intentional, ASAP
castled Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Thats precisely what i am saying. It works both ways. That is what makes it uncertain/exciting. My saying " it leads to superb cricket" is not a rule i am proclaiming. Its more of an example to show what i want to highlight. See, thats the problem. In giving that example to highlight, you chose to ignore the other side of the fact. It (umpiring error) works both ways as you said. It does not do anything to make a cricket match superb or not. Its the players who make that. As for uncertain/exciting, its a matter of opinion. You may feel excited because of the uncertainty, I feel frustrated as the players were robbed of what they actually deserve.
Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 are you really that naive MM ? do you think ICC will let you get away with those sort of statments ? About the only thing you can do is file a complaint with the match refere .... and it will get binned promptly as has happened to Gangs and the recent series in Eng. You got me wrong again BB. I am not asking for some player's statement on the lines of - " Well, Bucknor umpired badly". That would invite censure from ICC I am looking for a player to say - " Well, i think it would be better off if we replace umpires with technology" That wont invite trouble.
Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 See' date=' thats the problem. In giving that example to highlight, you chose to ignore the other side of the fact. It (umpiring error) works both ways as you said. It does not do anything to make a cricket match superb or not. Its the players who make that.[/quote'] aaah.. the thing is , it doesnt work both ways , all the time ,in the same manner. Now , thats the uncertainty i am talking about. As for uncertain/exciting, its a matter of opinion. You may feel excited because of the uncertainty, I feel frustrated as the players were robbed of what they actually deserve. I can understand that and i respect your opinion.
Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 9 decisions in one single TEST match MM ... what part of that is un-intentional ? Do you really think Bucknor is a fair umpire .... does anybody for that matter ? Well , if that be the case, then i would ask the ICC to get some fair umpires. Not replace them with robots. And how can you keep making these statements while at the same time acknowledging that you are unaware of specifics ? Is it really soo hard to call a spade a spade ? This is where it really gets tiring and irritating. Its not about being PC, BB. I say what i feel makes the game of cricket exciting. that is all.
Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 actually Ricky Ponting and the Aussie board went on the offensive to get a technology in the Super test .... this was after they got mugged by Dar and Bowden in that 2005 ashes test series ... Again, link please.
