Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 And how is that charming since you know it was based on what was a wrong call ? arent you endorsing cheating ? And its cheating because you have also accepted that India havent gotten the rub of green quite the same way as some other teams have. and yes a protracted trend that pretty much goes against us indicates that it isnt based on randomness. BB, by now , both of us have said the same point over and over again for a million times. Lets wait for the test series to begin shall we ?
Donny Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Iam not here to impress you Donny .. And you making inane and peurile statements and hiding behind cliches doesnt cover you with any glory. If you want to debate this in a mature way please try to do so based on fact figures and such .... I know its hard for you but give it a try once in a while. I am not the type that will brush things under the carpet. A wrong is a wrong .. doesnt matter who where or how ... it needs to be corrected more so when there are ways at our disposal. Beushing it aside under various excuses and cliches is nothing but cheating. Whatever, Bossby. The only 'impression' you make is this one >>
Donny Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Tom Moody played about 500 first class innings (300 matches). He was interviewed at the MCG yesterday. One of the questions asked was, "Tom, how many times were you wrongly given out?" Moody: "I probably got as many either way" Q: "So, you reckon it evens out?" Moody: "Definitely"
Donny Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Didnt expect anything better from you Donny ... as acurately predicted by me. Must feel good. You got something right. Now, perhaps you'd like to work on accurate spelling.
Donny Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Oh dear. Why not be totally ridiculous and bring it down to one dismissal - or one test.
Donny Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 this iz no MB 2 flant ours Englesh skillz..... no prizes phor excellanto Englesh ... The idea is get across our points .... and you got exactly what I wanted to convey ... i,e you are pedantic at best ... and thanks for re-confirming yet again ... And BTW english is like my 4th language in preference .... Of course, my point went right over your head. I was attempting to convey how nonsensical your obsessive carry on about umpire's decisions is by being equally silly about spelling.
Bumper Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I have read most of what Sriram is saying. U guys still dont geddit ? Its clear Sriram wants to make cricket more uncertain and exciting. The point is so subtle its not easy to see it, without a real world example. After all isnt this what BCCI barstards specialize in. A team comprising of Sharad Pawar, Rajiv Shukla and Niranjan Shah are masters at making the game in our part of the world as uncertain as possible. Look at how exciting they have made our cricket today. Five months after the world cup, We dont know who our coach is. One full month after our captain resigned, we still dont know who our captain is. And until the first game starts, we wont know who's gonna telecast the Ind-Pak series. Doesnt this all add excitement to this great sport ? Now throw in umpiring errors, you have a big time paisa-vasool excitement. Now am so uncertain where this thread is heading, which makes it all the more exciting.:cantstop:
novpj Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 What a totally irrelevant argument. Umpires - Are NOT threats to the life of a batsman. Uncovered pitches + No Helmets - Is a threat ! See the reason for helmets and covered pitches now ? :P Yes I see the difference - its whats convenient for your argument. If you want to intorudce uncertainty next time the run outs are referred to an umpire lets use a random no. generator to decide the outcome... since u dont care about the outcome anyways. Also stop the BS about it evens out. Outcome in cricket is a path dependent outcome i.e. an error in a match one way is not simply averaged out error in another match since depending upon when they happened they may or may not impact the oucomes equally. There is no excuse for not getting it right all the time.

The only problem is , You, in your hurry to put up some argument in favor of your side , have highlighted that " lets play without helmets and uncovered pitches" without realizing what a stupid suggestion it is. And as i keep saying , it is one thing to make things interesting , which is want a human umpire does , but an entirely different thing to make it look silly, which is what using a random generator to decide an outcome does. And since you yourself have admitted that the result of a cricket match is path independent , why not just leave it this way ? why this big fuss about all the errors ? My basic point has always been - Human umpires add to the uncertainty , which leads to a more exciting game to watch. I will stick out my neck and even say i dont even care if it evens out totally or not. I want to watch interesting cricket , not drab , mechanical sham that is called cricket, which has technology making the decisions.

Ram Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 You keep repeating the same cliches MM .... why should anybody have to live with a unfair setup that mostly works against our interests ? And remember you havent provided conclusive evidence as to how its always interesting when we get mugged. If you want to convince me that mugging is charming please tell me how it so .. lets take the Durban Test .... last December... what did you find charming and what made it soo exciting ? See BB , there is one essential difference between you and me. And while i see your point , you are yet to see mine , accusing me of hanging on to cliches. Please , make one final attempt to understand what i say , which is, " Many times , teams are hard done by bad umpiring. The result of the matches are influenced by a crucial umpiring decision, which is what makes you guys ask for 'getting it right all the time'. But i say , replacing the on-field umpire with technology will kill the excitement in the game and make it boring to watch. How can anybody watch a game , fair or unfair , if its boring ? " . I rest my case with this post.
