So ' date=' why have you been after me with this " he is trying to make this uncertain , hence more exciting" Bumps ? Wish i never said that.. :haha:[/quote'] I somehow find your logic a bit strange, even a bit masochistic. Why would anyone deliberately introduce umpiring errors in to the game, to make it more exciting ?

MM you would make a good politician. Let me give an example and see if you can relate. Lets take a controversial subject like gay marriage. A politician who is against gay marriage for whatever reason would come out and say that he doesnt support it because it destroys the tradition of marriage. Now some one who supports gay marriage on the fundamental belief of equal rights for human being would just argue with this position and the politician would turn around and say - you are not trying to understand my position its based on history and mistique and values. Further he would encourage those who would start softening their positions to acconomodat his like talking about civil unions. The fact is at the end some things are just right and some are just wrong and you my friend are worng when you use the excuses of mistique and excitement to justify incorrect decisions.

It makes it sound as though i am advocating new measures that make it even harder for the umpire to make the correct decision. My only staunch belief is , " The current system , by its own inherent failings/merits , helps to produce exciting cricket. Lets not change that"

Dude , you are missing the point. The utility of umpires on field does not have same magnitude as the impact of gay marriages on society. You guys are still stuck with the same " We have to do the right thing , we have to make things fair" mentality. For a change, think out of the box and try to understand the impact removing the human element from cricket could have on the game. After all , sport is NOT life.

Would u be happy boarding an elevator operated by lesser technology that came with the uncertainity of where u could end up ? Wouldnt that be exciting to others watching from the sidelines ? Your argument that cricket will suddenly lose its charm or entertainment value because of technology's intrusion neither has any basis nor any logic. By your own admission, umpiring errors even out, right ? Then for every exciting moment the umpiring errors add, theres gotta be a moment of lull or bummer ? Overall if you think umpiring errors even out, the excitement factor evens out too. If umpiring errors OTOH dont even out, you have an unfair system, creating excitement at the losing team's expense. So in either case you have a system that makes no sense. I would love to see this screwball-ish umpiring, when Pakistan plays:D For other games, no thank you!

Bumps, by actually pointing out to this elevator example , it seems as though you think i am supporting mediocrity in cricket , propping up an in-efficient system. My support for on-field umpires has got nothing to do how effective/fair it is. It is all about making the game more interesting. That is the only thing i am after.

Umpiring errors never even out over the period of a match, which is what i want. I want an umpire to be able to influence the result of the match, which is what happens many times, irrespective of whether his decision is right or not. When i say " it evens out" i was alluding to BB's allegation that India gets the rough end of bad umpiring all the time. And i can understand an umpiring decision creating controversy/excitement , but how can an umpiring decision ever create a dull moment ? I say this again Bumps , if cricket were a pure competition between bat and ball , who can hit the ball the hardest, who can bowl the most accurate , who can catch the best , then i bet you , it wouldnt be as interesting as it were today. If you want the best team to win or just find whose' cricket skill is best, why have a match circumstance, pressure scenarios at all ? Might as well just prop up the batsman/bowlers/fielders one-on-one , see who wins each time , give points and decide who is better. That doesnt happen you see. There is an actual match ,a real-life scenario, teams chasing , pressure build-up , dropped catches , missed stumpings. Now , THAT human element that is in the game is what makes it interesting to see. And i say the umpire just adds to that human element , hence making it more interesting.

MM .... Cricket is quite a serious bussiness with Millions of dollars at stake and ofcourse some careers ....It may not be important to you but out there players feel hard done by and its very obviously visible. (Eg SRT stopped walking , RD now has been dropped, Gangs filing a complaint etc etc ... ) Please dont tell me those are any less important than Gay marriage.
BB, why dont you realize that cricket is as big as it is today , because it is interesting to watch. And reducing the human interference in it would almost definitely kill the greatness of the game. And just to add on, cricket , however popular it is , is JUST sport. It is definitely not important as gay marriage. Its only media that just hypes cricket to be this larger than life thingy. For me , still, its a sport, thats all. If my dad were to ask me to stop watching cricket , i wouldnt be that flustered , but if he were to ask me to marry a guy , you bet i would raise a few heckles ! :haha:

Why is it that i am like the ONLY guy who thinks human umpires are good. Maybe, just maybe , i am wrong after all. :haha:

Why dont you realize that it will actually get more interesting if the technology was used. Case n point the SCG test ... we would most definitely have won had it not been for the crass umpiring. Unless ofcourse you suggest that a drawn series was better than India returning as the only team to beat Aus in Aus this decade.
You are speaking with the benefit of hindsight BB. I am just putting forward logical arguments. See the difference ?

I still await specifics which Iam pretty sure you will never be able to provide ... but at the same time keep making these statements ..... Cant have it both ways MM.
And i keep saying to you that i speak more as a cricket lover ,rather than an Indian cricket fan. Was India hard done by bad umpiring in one series ? So be it. I am pretty sure , some other time , the wheel of fortune will rotate the other way too.

yes my posts are backed by facts yours by emotion and a bunch of unjust ideas sold under different pretexts .... none of which can stand scrutiny.
If that be the case, as i have asked before, please point me to one news piece, where a worthwhile past/present cricketer , asian or white or black or whatever , ask for the umpires to be replaced with technology ? Dont sell me the usual story that "ICC will ban him". ICC will punish players only if they criticize a particular umpire/umpiring incident. Any one is free to speak on the system. Go ahead, show me a couple of news articles by players of respect. The ball is in your court now. After all , if the system is so screwed up, you must have atleast some complaning.
