Mr. Wicket
This is the first of many, many more. He's a superb batsman, and today wasn't his best innings by a long way. He showed a lot of nerves, struggled with the bowling early on with the prodigious seam and swing, didn't read Murali that well - and yet ended up with a hundred that came from bloodymindedness and determination to impose himself. Hopefully this is the last we'll see of the nerves for him. If he can bring his natural, aggressive game to the front from hereon, there will be some serious leather hunting ahead for Sri Lanka and India. Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
... and now he's got another to his name. I love it. :D Link to comment
Gambit
According to CI, this ton was more Jaques likes given his cutting and driving today. Another potential lefty who's going to run riot against us. Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
Don't forget the hooking and pulling, his bread and butter at times. Some of his pulls off Malinga and Fernando were stunning. There were two that stood out - a hook early on off Malinga that was literally off his helmet, and later another that perfectly bisected two men out in the deep for that shot and went for four. Jaques is going to have a monster run this season with the subcontinental trio - he's already cashed in on Sri Lanka. I expect more of the same vs. India. And then he'll be let loose on the roads of Pakistan in March, because piling onto their A team attack wasn't enough for him. A man with his penchant for run making, an attack potentially having the likes of Malcolm Sami and Kaneria, and possibly something like a Faisalabad road could mean some hysterical leather hunts.
