Zap_Brannigan Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Srini isn't going to be icc chairman? again rather than getting emotional and personal name me leagues or tournaments where players get paid by the central governing body according to how much they put in. Your a pyromaniac in a field filled with straw men. No one is defending the way ICC was before. Finally we agree the ICC is basically now the BCCI. There isnt a single league in which 1 team earns 70% of the revenue. Add to that none of the leagues have these draconian rules. FIBA doesnt get the top players to play. FIFA doesnt contractually obligates all the top players to play every year. So where is the question of even comparing? So name me a league with similar revenues and rules. La liga is the closest with 2 teams dominating demand and they do get a lot more than the others. EPL too(but this is IPL) but there are atleast half a dozen popular teams and they still have the rights to sponsorship. Man U has sold its rights to US. Yankees just sold their TV rights for billion or something. NBA teams retains their local TV rights. NFL too doesnt have exclusive rights to teams sponsorship and rights. No idea how ice hockey works. Does that cover all major sport leagues. You said srinivasan cancelled test championship. It was 1st cancelled in 2011. I am asking you how was srinivasan solely responsible for that... I wasnt getting emotional. I am just asking you about the blatant hypocrisy in your post. You want Indian players (they get 25% of the BCCI earnings) to spread their wealth. You want the state boards, the stadiums (they also get from BCCI's earnings) to get lesser money. Yet you dont want to give your money.
rajmarie Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Atleast I am happy that this TEST championship is cancelled. Todays test matches have become a boring fest......something that all boards and players needs to do so that they can have that badge...but nobody wants it. No board wants to become the 1st board to openly take out Test and concentrate on ODI/T20. Same with players.... There comes once in a blue moon an exciting test (but basically its more an exciting session or tops a day) & people start their this is why Test are important. If everyone who are in power walks the walk...then Test match was never going to become so boring game that it is now. Test matches now feels like forced down mostly for TV contracts which need LIVE programming to fill their schedule & Test matches provide 5 days (no wonder pitches are barren and dull so as to last those 5 days). Soon the TV broadcasters will themselves realize that their LIVE Test program had bottomed out...& then we will see the end of this Test matches.

As you said, it is trying to have a test last for 5 days thats made tests boring. All boards are greedy in this aspect. If the pitches are bowler friendly, we could see exciting test matches more often. But no ones wants to do that. ICC instead of holding T20's and champions trophy, could work more on test cricket. Maybe have a set of rules for pitch conditions and approve pitch types. But hey, ICC and all the board that it comprises like money.
Silva Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I wasnt getting emotional. I am just asking you about the blatant hypocrisy in your post. You want Indian players (they get 25% of the BCCI earnings) to spread their wealth. You want the state boards, the stadiums (they also get from BCCI's earnings) to get lesser money. Yet you dont want to give your money. Who said anything about lesser money? If you read my posts more carefully you can see that I said their were many ways for the BCCI to be innovative and make a lot more money for domestic players than spending so much time and resources bullying around the ICC as even you pointed out the amount of money BCCI makes from from T20 leagues is far greater than ICC tournaments, and would these leagues even exist if their was no ICC world T20? If I remember correctly BCCI was one of the last boards to embrace t20s. Also if your to apply your "spreading the wealth" analogy across the board then why should revenue generated by the stars in the Indian national team be subsidizing Ranji trophy players that no one has heard of? You can argue that Indian star players owe their success to India domestic sytem, but what would cricket be in India if it wasn't for the ICC world Cup? The IPL probably wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for The ICC world T20 and other teams playing so many T20s. You can't sit their and pretend that these ICC tournament haven't helped India cricket a lot simply because BCCI didn't get 70% of the revenue from playing in them. That is short sighted thinking. But if you still think that the BCCI are the saviors of Indian Cricket and the the ICC are the evil foreigners trying steel the money from poor Indian cricketers you can address your concerns to Srinivasan who will soon be Chairman of both organizations. I guess he has multi personality disorder.
