Running between the wickets? haunted him.Lets face it hes class, and even Dravid was in favor of him being in the team along with Mongia. i still see no issues with fielding like people claim as being, i thought he had a pair of safe hands. Took good catches. I dont know what the selectors are talking about. i feel like india will need him for the world cup, has been in some great encounters in the past, he has a lot too prove in the world cup stage , hopefully he works on running between the wickets, if hes not selected, hes basically done with one day cricket. Australia will always be a threat if india wants too win the world cup, and i feel like Laxman must take part for that that. Good knocks against strong teams like WI and a matchwinning hundred against Pakistan should surely be looked upon, his fitnessed should be looked upon periodically before the world cup. I really hope to look forward to see him in the world cup. I seriously think hes an integral player, if hes learned from his mistakes in his last tour, and did some quick touch ups. I dont see India winning the world cup without him, believe it or not.

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. yea man i dont see players like Raina, Uttapha standing a chance a such a high level, you definitely need some experience and solidty in the middle order other than Yuvraj and Dravid, and Laxman does just that. I mean there was time where this man scored 3 centuries in one week. Why not give him another chance?

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. even Ganguly got a chance, and hes not a great fielder or a runner. Id say hes worst than Laxman in fielding.

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. as far as odi is concerned he is second only to sachin in some respect he is even better..... fastest to reach 10000 runs doesn't happen just like that..

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. I agree with Yoda VVS could be in 15 just incase there are some tricky pitches for WC. A good fielder/ quick runner between wicket like raina can only make a difference of 15 runs a game but on a pitch with something for bowlers VVS would be handy.

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. more than handy, plus Laxman has a great record in the West Indies, sure it may be test match cricket but with Laxman desire to play his first world cup, you would imagine him to perform at his highest level after all the scrutiny hes been through.

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. VVS will not make it for WC... VVS has a good record in ODIs whenever the pitch had some bounce or the ball was coming on to the bat.... in Windies, the ball does not come on to the bat and you need power player, not touch players in the middle overs.... thts where we suffered in the caribb series in the 4-1 loss.... we have not even talked about his fielding yet.... too bad, it is the dream of half a million folks to play WC and feel they are qualified enuf...

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. yea but its Laxman here, hes played a 86 ODI's and still no appearance, dont you want to see what hes all about when it comes to the world cup. I feel like hes been the cricketer whose always been treated with casuality and putting him on a world cup squad would end his ODI career in a good way.

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. Sure power play is an important factor, but how consistent can these young hooligans prove to be. Look Sehwag hes all about power but he is not effective on a consistent basis. I believe it is fair that Raina makes for Laxman just for the world cup, raina has had so many opportunities at such a young age and has managed 50's only within India and not outside in other countries, hes fielding may be good but when Laxman can potentially score between 50-100,and provide stability in the middle order, and Raina very seldomly scores over 20 and saves 15-20 runs what would you rather have who is more valuable? Raina, Mongia, Kaif do not equal to have of Laxmans batting pedigree, enough said.

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. i mean if you are a Legitimate Indian cricket fan, i feel like Laxman deserves atleast one world cup before he retires.

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. i am not advocating Raina's inclusion as well..... KKD is a better choice.... he has shown he can perform against top opposition and on away pitches..... he has shown he can innovate as well as belt the ball a long way.... and he is a terrific diver and fielder..... on the other hand, gangs, sach, dhoni, gambhir, KKD, dravid, viru and yuvi have all shown they have good powerplay..... selecting from these, will give us the best chance to succeed in windies.... u cant jus go by sentiments.... windies, not only the pitches, the outfield is slow too.... if there is not enuf power in ur shot, it will easily be stopped in the infield and if u find the gap, u need to be a good runner to convert it to 2, cos u require good power to get a boundary.... VVS will lack in tht... other hand, small boundaries, all of the above players can send the ball soaring over the ropes when required wiith decent probability.... too bad, VVS never worked on his weakness..... DRavid was in a similar boat in 1999/2000, but he worked on it.... VVS needed to accept his shortcoming and work on it rather than harp in every interview that he is being targetted...

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. If VVS realizes his wcup dream, we cant realize our wcup dream. There is simply no room for VVS in the squad, esp, with Ganguly, Gambhir sealing their spots & Sehwag, Yuvraj set to return. Picking VVS is an act of desperation. Hopefully we dont have to resort to that

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. Its important to keep the type of surfaces wcup will be played on, in perspective, before we decide on VVS. Even the last wcup which was played in SA was not played on typical Saffie wickets, where 250 is a match winning score. Most of them were high scoring batting beauties. Thats how all future world cups will be. In such wickets a team cannot afford to play more than one or two innings builders (whose role is to anchor the innings & rotate the strike for more aggressive stroke makers). You need to pack your batting lineup with stroke makers, who can make match winning 50s/100s. VVS, Kaif, Dravid, SRT can all be classified as innings builders, tho, the latter two can accelerate when necessary. Given that Dravid & SRT will figure in our starting XI in all games, there is simply no use for Kaif & VVS. Hence they rule themselves out by default. Playing Kaif/VVS will make our middle order stink like it used to in 2004-05 season. VVS must retire from ODIs & focus on his test career.

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. nope dont agree with you. Hes an efficient player, even if he doesnt have the big strokes, why should he retire hes only 32 and thats still an age he can play the world cup. I think your unfairly disregarding Laxman, especially because hes played some great innings in the middle order, he even scored 3 centuries in one week. With his burning desire to play a world cup that should fuel his performance in the Windies, hes had play some crucial knocks over thre too.Uttapha and Powar will make way for Yuvraj and Sehwag, But KKD and Raina do NOT deserve a place instead of Laxman atleast for the world cup.

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. A prime example would be....When Laxman scored a brilliant in Lahore against Pakistan in the final deciding match which enabled india to win the series, the innings was very well constructed. Its times like this where he will be needed, i dont think Karthik and Raina are good enough to chase down or build innings, we have enough power players such Ganguly, Yuvraj, Sachin at times, Pathan, Dhoni, and Sehwag we need stabilizers and judging by the way Sachins playin these days someone like Laxman will be needed. Even Dravid was dissapointed Laxman wasnt selected into the team.

Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. nobody debates Laxman's usefulness in odis.... but explain how his batting will make a difference having the slow, low pitches and extremely sluggish outfield in mind....
