Rohan495 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. a key thing we need to also remember, Laxman has been the biggest threat to the Australian bowling attack, and we know that Australia is not done with their tally of world cups, eventually India will have to face them during the world cup, Laxmans presence will create a boost into the batting line up of India.
Bumper Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. You cannot quote the peaks of a player to justify his selection. If u go by only peaks, then literally every player deserves to be picked. You need to look at Laxman's utility in the CURRENT team. I dont think Raina will fit either. KKD might, because he is: a) A backup keeper (last worldcup we had parthiv patel as a backup for Dravid) b) An inform middle order batsman c) A potential power hitting option If we are gonna make any progress in the world cup, one/two of Ganguly, SRT, Sehwag, Yuvraj better show up. You cant win a world cup on the back of a Kaif or a Laxman making 100s.
Rohan495 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. Gator answer me one question, Wasnt Laxman pretty succesful in the Windies? so how can you say slow low pitches will affect his class and his capabilties in the West Indies, Why should Karthik be used instead of Laxman tell me how many encounters KKD has been in that were big time matches, I dont think that gets into peoples heads. Experience will win you games, you can almost guarantee that. Its like this........would you rather play Kobe Bryant or some rookie in the 4th quarter of a basketball game, where big shots and plays must be made.
Rohan495 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. Bumper.... KKD might, because he is: a) A backup keeper (last worldcup we had parthiv patel as a backup for Dravid) b) An inform middle order batsman c) A potential power hitting option -First of all we dont need him on the team, we have Dhoni and then we have Dravid who can always back him up if really required -Second of all, how is Laxman out of Form he averaged just after Ganguly in the South Africa series, even helped India win in Joburg -Third of All, How many power hitters do you want in the team, We already have Sehwag, Ganguly, Dhoni, Yuvraj, Tendulkar at times, and even Dravid now. Even then i dont think KKD is a consistent power hitter - Lastly if you want to talk about Laxmans fielding abilities, he performed really well in the slips and took some great catches and wasnt tested anywhere in the outfield, so how can people say he hasnt been fielding well And lastly if you want to talk about currently, what about tendulkar, we all know tendulkar is great, but there was a time where Laxman was as good as Tendulkar, so what do you have to say about that? wouldnt it apply to tendulkar too?
Bumper Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. Laxman & Ganguly are diff type of ODI players. The former always struggled to establish himself in the shorter version while the latter is an all time great ODI batsman. So am not sure how u can extrapolate Laxman's test form (which was just above average) to justify his inclusion in the ODI lineup. Besides, i expect the world cup pitches to be flat & high scoring. Read my earlier post on the same, i have nothing more to say about VVS. If KKD doesnt fit the bill, the replacement is not VVS. It can be a Uthappa or a Joginder or even a Pathan.
Rohan495 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. and one thing i forgot in regards of Laxmans utility, his batting is enough thats all we need. He adds another dimension to the Indian cricket team whether its saving India from a batting collapse or being the X-Factor of a match.
Rohan495 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. Uttapha and Joginder, in place of Laxman for the world cup you must be joking right? how many matches have those guys played.
Rohan495 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. Joginder and Pathan can battle, and Uttapha can do his thing too. I think you are forgetting that Laxman is a middle order batsmen so Raina and KKD would be the people who he would replace if he got recalled.
Rohan495 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. and besides Rahul advocates Laxmans inclusion in the team, thats a good enough reason for him to get recalled into the world cup.
gator Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. Gator answer me one question' date=' Wasnt Laxman pretty succesful in the Windies? so how can you say slow low pitches will affect his class and his capabilties in the West Indies.[/quote'] lax has played only one ODI in windies.... and he scored only 2 runs.... question is not, whether he can bat in windies or not... question is whether he can accelerate on slow, low pitches.... as much as i am a fan of his strokeplay and genius, i cant envision him being successful odi batter in those conditions.... his inclusion will be automatic, if this WC was in australia....
Birbal2 Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. VVS is unidimensional player...cant loft or manufacture shots... cant bowl...and cant field... No room for him in ODIs...
Rohan495 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. but hes a proven matchwinner.
gator Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. VVS has not proven himself under all conditions and situations
Birbal2 Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. On what basis is he a proven match winner... If you look at Man of the Match awards per ODIs played he would trail...FAR behind the likes of even Sehwag and Yuvraj...not to mention Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid....
Rohan495 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. what basis? saving india from defeats, stabilizing innings, what else do you need, you just seem to be one of those people who forget his peformances easily.
Birbal2 Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. He has not performed all that well in ODIs... except for a golden period in Australia... Other wise his batting average wouldn't be in low 30s... and strike rate in mid 70s... Just not good enough... especially as he doesnt bowl nor field well except in the slips...
Rohan495 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. thats because he was treated unfairly, and often dumped so easily and couldnt get a real rythm goin in one day cricket, like last series he got 1 match against SA, and he failed and thats it, the selectors go on about how he is unfit and slow between wickets, after 1 chance, thats how it is for the poor man, but an appearance in the world cup would boost his morale and would end his one day career on a good note.
Rohan495 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. "Too often in the recent past, Laxman has batted like a man with his place on the line. Some of his doubts are perhaps self-inflicted. But to get the best out of him, he must be made to feel wanted and secure" -Sambit Bal Basically sums up my point.
Rohan495 Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. and respondin to you Birbal, his average is not that great, but within his average range some big names stand out Mahela, Sanath, Fleming, Younis Khan. The difference is that Laxman gets dumped to easily. If he was on any other team besides India he would dealt in a more respectful manner.
gator Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Re: VVS MUST realize his world cup dream. all have greater chance of taking their team to victory while chasing 50 of 30 balls than Lax has.... LAx depends a great deal on fast outfields, loose balls, small boundaries.... its all good for test cricket, not odi style and especially world cup..... sorry, i would rather give in than have him and hope he will salvage a tight situation.....
