gator
Re: Agarkar Bheems.... contrary to wat many think, control is also a talent and not everyone can be a mcgrath, just by working on it.... he will have decent control due hard work, but beyond tht, he will lose it all....pace, swing et al.. Birbal2
Re: Agarkar His deficiency may be his STRENGTH... The aggressive batsmen get cocky playing against him.. and often play one shot too many... and BOOM their side is on the back foot... In ODIs... taking out the KEY striker... i.e. a Gayle, a Pietersen, a Ponting, a Gilchrist, often results in the opposition scoring 10-15 runs less than they would have...and that is often all the margin needed to win... Plus his fielding is teriffic... his throwing from the deep is flat, fast and accurate...we need that in ODIs too... Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
Re: Agarkar Yup... people will look back over this performance and only think that he got a wicket. People will forget he got Chris Gayle... usually one of our problem batsmen, and one man who if he gets going, can take apart an attack in a few overs. Considering that this was a low scoring affair, a quick 20-30 from Gayle could have EASILY tilted the balance and put India on the defensive - Agarkar ensured it wouldn't happened and gave us early momentum. BTW - he should also have had a second LBW. Devon Smith was given not out to a ball pitching on leg and middle and straightening... Link to comment

King
Re: Agarkar To be honest Agarkar should have snare more than one but for the umpire not giving Smith out. I just had a look at Gayle's dismissal and Smith's. Smith was more out than Gayle. Realistically Agarkar picked up 2 wickets in his first over. Link to comment
Bumper
Re: Agarkar Bheem nailed it. Aggy gets his wickets by bowling those wicked in-swinging flattish deliveries to lefties which gets them out LBW. He doesnt have the bounce, to go with his pace, to get the edges frequently. His run leaking deliveries only makes him more ineffective, as batsmen dont have to take too many chances after hitting a boundary. Taking wickets & stopping runs are not mutually exclusive in Aggy's case. He can do both, by just being more conservative with his line & length. Today when he came back for the final spell, he was tryin the slower one right from ball one, losing his radar. He drifted down the leg generously & looked like handing the game away. Fortunately that crappy over was followed up by some good overs by Tendu & Zakky, which saved the day. Link to comment
Birbal2
Re: Agarkar Bottom Line is he is one of Indias BEST ODI bowlers...and that includes Kumble, Srinath and Kapil Dev... We are unnecessarily harsh on him... different bowlers have different roles... some take wickets others restrict runs... That is why we need both the Agarkars and the Bhajjis... in Indian team... And in ODIs.. the difference between 4.5 rpo and 5 rpo is about 5 runs.... something that if he takes a BIG wicket or two...he more than makes up for... And if you include his batting and his fielding into the mix... he is much better bet than some bowler who has marginally better economy rate but cant field or bat... Link to comment
Birbal2
Re: Agarkar Bumper... yes he has those wicked inswinging deliveries to lefties...but how do you account that among his most common victims are guys like Ponting, Inzamam, Atapattu, Jayawardane, Kaluwitharana...etc? It is because he also bowls a mean outswinger when given the NEW ball... and can trap these guys before they are set and get going... Though in Inzi's case it may be due to reverse swing with the oldish ball Link to comment

Dhondy
Re: Agarkar Agree with Gaurang here. If Aggy's gonna be in the team, he's gotta open. No point in playing him otherwise. Link to comment
