MCGGG Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Might not be that interesting to some, but let me tell it anyway. 25 years ago (give or take) I lived with a few A grade club cricketers in Melbourne, none of us worked, we spent every waking hour in the nets which were situated behind our house in a high school, there was an oval a straight drive away from these nets (the pitch was around 140 mtrs away), over time the goal for us was to hit the ball from the nets to the oval pitch on the full, a mission we just couldn't complete, and TBH even get close to. Enter the broken graynicolls power spot, I can't remember the incident but we ended up splitting the bat around an inch (maybe more) on the edge from top to toe, the bat was unusable how it was so we decided to split the other side to atleast give it balance. What we didn't know is the extreme power this gave the bat, the pitch was cleared many times with this modified bat, we put it down to wind residence, so, if you really want power, you know........ Even sacrificing an inch of blade width will give you more power than an expensive bat, but that's the question, are you willing to lose that inch?
MCGGG Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 Umm...top edges? I'm talking about the width of the bat, the wider the bat the more wind resistance created meaning less power. IMO substantial power gains can be created by shaving as little as 4 millimetres off each edge, obviously that comes with pitfalls though.
