PNG cricket - Upcoming team and talent. Just saw this video, youngsters and kids playing on the street. Some of the shots they played are pure cricketing shots (especially that kid at 1:10). I bet this would be the team to look for in next 10 years. http://youtu.be/J50B2jpRvE0 PNG beat Netherlands by 5 wicket in recently concluded ICC intercontinental cup http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-intercontinental-cup-2015-17/engine/match/870879.html

The christian missionaries that went in did popularize the sport somewhat so a good national team isn't that much of a surprise. Watch this:

Cricket Australia needs to take a bit of credit as well for developing some of their players.

We all played gully cricket when we were kids but the shots we played were more like andha dhundhi, no proper footwork. I am really impressed with the kids in the video, even though they are playing on street they are following proper cricket techniques. The defense, leave, cut shot and hitting the over pitched ball, all look perfect, right from the text book. If their street cricket is of such a high standards, they are bound to shine, if not now then definitely in a decade or so.

This is just the beginning, more surprises to come. If PNG can beat Ireland, I bet they can beat any test rated team. In this match: T20I debuts - CJA Amini, MD Dai, WT Gavera, L Nou, K Pala, JB Reva, L Siaka, TP Ura, A Vala, N Vanua and JNT Vare (Papua New Guinea) Twenty20 debut - L Nou (Papua New Guinea) A suffocating fielding performance by Papua New Guinea set the stage for Ireland's first loss at the World T20 Qualifier since the opening match of 2012 against Namibia, ending a streak of 21 straight wins in the tournament. Chasing 124, Norman Vanua struck three sixes in the 19th over to give PNG a dramatic two-wicket win in Belfast. http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-world-twenty20-qualifier-2015/engine/match/875501.html
