Ozzie Media spin

Ozzie media has been running stories about "India too old, too tired, too rushed", I want to look at what is truth to this story. Let us start with the age. I am going to focus the attention on possible XI for Ind and Aus. Pos Player Age 1 Jacques 28 2 Hayden 36 3 Ponting 32 4 Symonds 32 5 Hussey 32 6 Michael Clarke 26 7 Gilly 36 8 Hogg 36 9 Lee 31 10 Johnson 26 11 Stuart Clarke 32 No of players who are 25 and under : None No of players who are 26 to 30 : 2 No of players who are 31 to 35: 5 No of players who are 36+ : 3 No of players who are <= 30 : 2 Pos Player Age 1 Sehwag 29 2 Jaffer 29 3 Dravid 34 4 Tendul 34 5 Ganguly 35 6 VVS 33 7 Dhoni 26 8 Kumble 37 9 Zaheer 29 10 RPS 22 11 Ishant 19 No of players who are 25 and under : 2 No of players who are 26 to 30 : 4 No of players who are 31 to 35: 4 No of players who are 36+ : 1 No of players who are <= 30 : 6 However way you look at the team complexion, Ozzie have more oldies than Indians. Ozzies have 3+ players who are 36+ compared to India which is only 1 Ozzies have 5+ players who are between 30 to 35 compared to India which is 4 I wonder what ozzie media is spinning. About Tired: Both Ozzies & Indians have been playing cricket for the past 3 months. Ozzies had series with SriLanka. India had a series with Pakistan. Aussies are still continuing to play one day while India have completed the series. Some of the players such as sachin, zaheer, RPS were rested to be fresh for the series against Ozzies. As far as the tour schedule is rushed is a valid point. Indians could have had enough time to get adjusted to ozzies before the first test. But the spin the ozzies are having is hilarious. Our media is timid and is not ready to even bring objective discussion.

If someone comes to interview Indian players about age, they should just say ozzies are lot older than indians. This will shift the focus of ozzies to come up some other new spin. They will come up with something like - Indians are very raw. They are not experienced. As far as 5-0 nil, are you saying against England.

Average Age for Australia : 347/11 = 31.5 Average Age for India : 327/11 = 29.7

I think a straight-shoot numbers comparison of the ages of the players of both the teams doesnt make a lot of sense. Hayden and Gilly may be 36, but are still amongst the fittest cricketers. I cant even imagine 33 or 30 year old Laxman taking a flying catch that Gilly did to dismiss a NZ batsman of Tait's first ball in the 20/20 match. I have seen Hogg field and that is one hell of an athlete for someone who is so old. The less said about Symmonds, the better. Compare these over-30s with our own and we dont even stand a chance. Laxman can at best be called sedate, Ganguly , at best, labors after the ball. Dravid and Sachin are decently fit men with Dravid's throwing arm almost non-existent. In terms of physical strength and fitness, the Aussies are way ahead of us, even they are much older and there is nothing we can do about it.

Hey MM, the polished name for Gangools is an escort service. I am tired of the number of times I've cursed him for running along side the ball, with me shouting "just pick it up .. goddammit". But I agree with MM.. in terms of oldness the aussies with their spirit and physiques are way better than the Indian lot. In our possible team we have jaffer and dravid who're ok and yuvi would double the standard of the team if included, but the rest including the veterans are just trundlers. No idea about the newbies though.

You say the Australian media has been saying that "India is too old, blah, blah". I live in Brisbane and have not read such reports at all. I don't know where you get your information from but clearly your source is not very good. I think all the media here think the Australian team is older than the Indians. I think the only point is that this will be the last Test tour for some of the greats of Indian cricket over the last decade or so. I can't believe you wasted so much time coming up with a report on ages of players, when there has been no such talk here in Australia.

Since when was the Herald Sun a decent newspaper? As for generalising about the rest of the Australian media' date=' I would say you are drawing an extremely long bow.[/quote'] Sydney Morning Herald and Melbourne Herald Sun are the only Australian newspapers that I am familiar with. What are the other popular papers ?

May be just a culture difference, Bharat. Depends what the article was referring to. Cocky isn't necessarily a negative or a put down. May have just been a 'headline' word for confident. We tend to like cocky individuals - as long as they can back it up with actions.
