If England lose the next Test, SL go ahead of everybody into 2nd place. If England draw, SL still overtake us into 3rd place. In either event, England go 5th, and we stay 4th. If England win, nothing changes. The table remains the same for rank order- England-SA-India-SL. So no change before the Oz series in any event. We stay 4th.

Over the next few years we will be playing Australia a lot, so expect our rankings to drop a bit. However, I have no problems with it as playing Australia improves our cricket and we become a better side as a result.

Hi Faisal, Why do you say that? I've read FB's views in which the Australian fans were perhaps as disappointed by India's batting as we are. I love to read their impartial views (the good forummers' view that is, not the troll's). It'd have been interesting had Donny expressed his view here.

Dravid slips to 14th; Tendulkar, Ganguly move up in rankings Rahul Dravid's pathetic display in the Boxing Day Test saw him drop two rungs to 14th in the latest LG ICC Test Rankings for batsmen. Sachin Tendulkar, India's topscorer in the first innings, managed to move up a place to 17th, while Sourav Ganguly, who showed grit in both the innings, too climbed a place to be 18th. Despite the team's defeat in Melbourne, India skipper Anil Kumble finds himself one place up at the fourth slot in the bowlers' rankings, which has Zaheer Khan static at 13th. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara returned to the top of the batsmen's rankings for the second time in three weeks after Australian captain Ricky Ponting and South African Jacques Kallis suffered rare batting failures in the Melbourne and Port Elizabeth Tests respectively. Ponting had entered the Boxing Day Test leading second-placed Kallis by one point and third-placed Sangakkara by three. But his contribution of four and three in his team's 337-run victory over India meant he conceded 19 points and has fallen behind the two on 917 points. Kallis also squandered an opportunity to surge to the top when he was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of his team's 128-run defeat to the West Indies. But he did just enough to hang on to second place on 923 points, an ICC release said here on Sunday. Sangakkara's return to the top means Sri Lanka again boasts players at the top of both the batsman and bowler categories as world record-breaking spinner Muttiah Muralitharan tops the bowling list. Chanders moves up in ICC ratings Shiv Chanderpaul has moved up to equal 5th. in the ICC batting ratings table. He picked up 45 rating points for his second Test heroics. Ram Sarwan is the next highest rated Windian, at 21. Gayle is 26th. and Bravo, 33rd. Mike Hussey dropped 10 points to 911 after only scoring 10 & 40 and Ricky Ponting also dropped 10 points despite scoring 103 runs in the Test. Andy Symonds continues his climb up the ratings after 210 runs for twice out over the last 2 Tests. Matt Hayden lost points again and will lose about 25 for missing the 3 Windies Tests. 1 M.E.K. Hussey: Tests within the last calendar year: 133 (1 innings) against SL in Brisbane 166 against SL in Hobart 38 against India in Melbourne 186 against India in Sydney 46 against India in Perth 22 (1 innings) against India in Adelaide 57 against West Indies in Kingston 50 against West Indies in Antigua Over that period, he averages 59. Overall 71

Maybe you should check out how these ratings are worked out. They are not calculated on the last 2 series the batsman has played.

I know how they are worked out roughly - don't think an exact public formula is available though and it's still a surprise because firstly it takes time for starting cricketers to reach the top because of weighted yearly system and secondly Hussey's last year hasn't been exceptional. All his big hundreds have come in high scoring matches when lots of other people scored etc.
